I don't think anyone here thinks Gabe shot the ball well from three, at all. What we were all reacting to initially was the claim that Gabe shot so many threes because of his massive ego, which is a statement so dumb it challenges the bounds of the word.
Secondly, I think questioning TJ is fine. I think some of you guys don't live in reality w/r/t the skill level and contributions of the players who could have been taking Gabe's minutes, though. He was the 3rd option offensively. He played the third-most minutes. He took the third-most shots. He played at or above the level of IB and Hunter defensively. That's what a lot of non-elite teams' third options in college ball look like.
In our three NCAA games, Brockington went 15-46 from the floor and had 10 turnovers with just one assist. Those are bad numbers, and none of us would trade it for the incredible, incredible season he gave us. Gabe shot a little better during those three games and turned it over just as much, without an assist. Everyone on this team had fundamental flaws. Everyone had really bad shooting nights. And we still made the Sweet 16. I'm not sure if you think we should have gone further in the tournament but I think coaching + defense is what got us that far, so it seems like missing the forest for the trees when criticizing TJ for a tradeoff he was clearly making to get us as far as he could.
I also hope we bring in some guys who can shoot and just let Gabe focus on defense. But it's pretty embarrassing, in my opinion, to read people say things like they hope he doesn't come back or that his ego drove him to shoot when he was clearly just executing a gameplan as intructed--one that got us to the Sweet 16.
