NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

Didn't think this would be the case:

I guess it makes some sense, when I think about it. Bears, Titans, Jets have been primarily rushing based offenses. I'm curious how much of the change is based on the (perceived) quality of the QB. Pretty obvious for the Bears and Jets, but also Titans and Pats probably rush more due to not fully trusting their QB.

Good find.

Seems like the trend league wide this yr defensively is to eliminate big passing plays. We are seeing more two deep safeties, quarters and deeper zone coverages, etc with lighter boxes and when that happens Offenses will run more. I think this is why scoring is down too. Offenses running more and forced to run more plays per drive to score.

It would be interesting to see if the avg total plays per scoring drive is up as well than in recent yrs.

The Falcons, Giants, Bears, Cowboys, and Ravens are the largest contributors to the net change on a per game basis.

You could also say they have extreme difficulty throwing the ball and they have no alternative.

They talked along those same lines on the Pat McAffee show a couple of times. Basically defenses have finally adjusted and figured out how to cover up these crazy pass games leaving things more open to pound the rock.

Also defenses playing more of a bend, don't break philosophy. They'd rather give up 3-4 yds a carry then 15-20 a chunk with passing plays.

McAffee has 3 really good segments on during the week. AQ Shiply with the OL breakdown, Darius Butler breaking down secondary, and then coach Paganno with the "team" meeting prep for the Thursday night game. Very interesting especially for someone who never played competitive football at any level.

In addition to what others have already said, you also have Josh Allen, Lamar, Hurts, Daniel Jones, Fields, Mariota and Kyler who are more than willing to take off and run or have designed run plays. Those seven all have 350+ rushing yards on the season.

Just finished watching the halftime show for the Detroit vs Buffalo game.

I don't think Dan Campbell is anywhere close to the best football mind in the NFL, certainly not in terms of Xs and Os, but what he's accomplished is made a less than stellar roster buy in to what he wants to accomplish.
He's instilled toughness and pride.

Yikes for the Bears. Fields is out. Trevor Siemean was set to start, but got hurt in warm-ups. So they're going with Nathan Peterman, who was just moved up from the practice squad yesterday. The Jets defense is going to feast.

The Bears should forfeit the game just for having Nathan ******* Peterman on a roster.

Get on the bus and head home. No one wants to see Peterman
