What would be the point of the time limit in the playoffs? Somebody still needs to win. I agree the rules could be different for the playoffs and that the regular season rules can stay as they are.

I'm looking at shortened OT quarters as well here.
Thought I had in mind is that team A has a 6:30 drive for a TD. Team B then has 2:30 to tie. Givens everyone a possession, but shortens the OT period. Could lead to more ties though as well, and that's not ideal.

I can't find a clip of it, but my favorite funny moment was in the same game when TB (at least I think it was TB) scored a rushing touchdown from the 1, and Cris Collinsworth mentioned on air that it took two thrusts for them to get it in. I had to rewind the broadcast to make sure I heard it right, and sure enough that's exactly how he said it.

There's also been past games done by Aikman where his wording sounds like he's talking dirty too.

Anyone else think the two games this weekend might both be snoozers/not really that close? KC lost to Cincy and Rams lost twice to the 49ers in the regular season. But I just have a sense both the Chiefs and the Rams are gonna win convincingly.

On a kickoff the ball is put at the 25 if the fair catch is closer to the goal line.

I think 3TrueFans is correct and I'm wrong - only college brings it out to the 25 in this case.

My proposal is, for playoffs only, an untimed period consisting of each team getting the ball at least once, and if still tied play continues without the option of punting until one team wins. Each offense gets their shot and players are forced to make plays instead of playing conservatively. Defense can also factor in, stop a team on their own 20 on 4th down, you can kick to win immediately.

Interesting idea, I was also thinking along these lines but wasn’t sure of a way to implement it.

You mean like winning a Super Bowl? Rodgers is the only reason they've been relevant most of the years they've come up short. He's been as close to a one man show as you can get in the NFL. There are only a couple of other guys currently who could do what he does. They may not have a choice but they will be on the short end of any scenario where he leaves GB.

This is very true, but the last 2 years Rodgers was very much a reason the Packers couldn’t get to the Super Bowl. If you are going to take 45 million, you better back it up. Packers defense was phenomenal Saturday, and it was also good enough last year against Tampa Bay. Rodgers will be 39 next year and being poor in the playoffs is becoming a trend for him. Perfectly fine moving on from him and letting him be a regular season qb on another team.

It sounds like the networks have been after him. When you see the money some of these guys get to commentate it's got to be tempting.

On Twitter they were talking about the Saints cap situation, so I went and checked it out. Wow! They are in cap hell. Way, way over the cap for next year. No wonder Payton is stepping away. With the amount of players they'll have to cut just to get under the cap, they're going to be pretty bad next year.

Well, he's under contract with New Orleans. Dallas would have to buy his contract out, presumably. If he retires for a year, the contract becomes void and he can sign with another team.

Nope...but I think Payton had 2 years left on his NO deal. So...would Dallas have to compensate NO with picks? I would guess so and that might make the Dallas job less appealing to Payton. Just throwing out a possible scenario. Also...Payton said he was exhausted by this past season. So maybe he wants a break?
