NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

The NFC isn't anywhere near as stacked, but they have probably the two best teams in Philly and SF... and a Detroit team that not many teams want to face right now if they qualify for the playoffs. The irony is perhaps the one team that won't be afraid of them - SF - would likely be their first round opponent.
I think I'd take the Bengals, Chiefs and maybe the Bills over the Eagles right now. Eagles are clearly a very good, complete team, but they have played one of the weakest schedules in the league so far this year. Their out of division games have been AFC South, NFC North, and the Steelers and Cardinals. I'd like to see them against one of the top 3 in the AFC.

Holy cow did Washington get screwed. The McLaurin thing is absurd. That guy should be out of a job. Its a multi billion dollar industry and you have games being decided because a ref eyeballing the line of scrimmage thinks a guy who is 30 feet away from the play may be a foot behind the line. All after him trying to confirm he was, in fact, on the line. Then to not call what was an extremely obvious PI on the last play.

In general I think officiating has been awful this season. At the beginning of the year we were told there was going to be more emphasis on preventing defenders from impeding the receivers and we see some ticky tack penalties called and then we see a receiver running with a guy holding onto his jersey go uncalled.
They call a roughing the passer call on a tap yet nothing when they pick up Mahommes (or any QB) and throw him to the ground.
So inconsistent

Officiating at all levels would be 1000x better if the emphasis was simply this - make absolutely damn sure it's a penalty and it has an impact on the play if you're going to throw a flag.

In a game where there are legit penalties on damn near every play, the thing that drives me crazy is guys throwing flags on phantom or ticky tack things like a guy trying to block a pass and his hand coming down and slapping a QBs helmet. The illegal formation call on McLaurin was bad. Hard to tell, but from the angle it looked like he was at most 1 yard of the LOS, with the way the G and T can flair out a bit it's pretty tough to tell. And the reason that call might still have mattered is the defense can play differently if it was a TE. But since it was a T, and he didn't report as eligible, it really had no impact on how the defense would play.

It's not the ref's job to ensure the offense's formation is legal.

They are required to signal to the player when the player asks. This happens at literally every level of organized football in every football game that has or will ever be played.

That should be the last game for that official, not just for that but he had several other issues in the game.

The ref is pointing to the line of scrimmage and says something to Mclaurin, Mclaurin scoots up about a half step, presumably because he knows he's not on, but he doesn't move up nearly enough and is still well behind the line.

Does hurting Hurts hurt Eagles chances?

Unfortunately, a decent amount.

Huge GB and Eagles fan (Eagles much longer) and this year we finally had them doing good. I think their schedule has allowed them a couple extra wins and they still have some weaknesses, but without Hurts they’re going to struggle. They still have a huge edge for homefield advantage even if they lose to the Cowboys, but they were always going to struggle with certain teams (i.e. Cowboys when they don’t get in their own way) and this will only compound that.

Hurts keeps defenses honest in a way that mustache man doesn’t – even though he may have a more consistent arm at times. Having Hurts back is the only chance at the SB in my opinion. Hopefully it’s only a game or two.

There a TON of dominos that have to fall right for it to happen, but if Green Bay wins out and Giants and Commanders stumble, GB could sneak in to the 7th seed...and if they do...they would likely play at Minnesota. Woo doggy. I would think Vikings fans would be sweating with that...

Love GB, but I’m ready for their season to be done - it’s felt so much like Iowa State’s this year. Them getting in makes about as much sense as Tampa Bay getting in with their ****** record - and yet they most likely will.

The Lions vs Packers to finish the season may be for a playoff spot. But the Packers would also need Seattle to stumble as well.

That chances of that happening is like 0.0007%. And don’t forget Detroit.

But yes, please don’t scare me like that. -Viking fan

There’s a simulator on ESPN picking all remaining games and gives you seeding spots. Again there are countless things that have to go Packers way but none of them are crazy looking at each game individually. It’s not gonna happen. Just didn’t realize they really even had a shot at making it.

I think their season ends next week in Miami

Interesting after Aaron Jones' TD reception, Jones did 5 1 5 on his hand and jumped on Lazard's back and Lazard started carrying him off the field.

Crazy that Rams will be on their 7th straight draft without a 1st round pick.
