He gets zero protection from the line (as a bears fan I’ve been begging for them to pick o linemen early in the draft for years and they get little to no help there). Plus he holds on to the ball too long. Plus he doesn’t check down. He’s set on who’s he’s going to throw it to long before the play starts and zeros in on them.
And then the guys he is throwing to stink as well. Fields has to improve for sure but the bigger issues are that OL & receiving crew.
I wouldn't call him a bust yet. He has shown he his the physical tools to be an NFL QB, he just has to develop the mental parts of the game. Reading a defense, setting his protections, going through his reads, and anticipating when receivers are going to be open instead of waiting until they already are. There are all issues that young QBs tend deal with in the league.
Holding on to the ball too long was a knock on him even in college. He takes way too long getting rid of the ball. Fields also is not very accurate in the short to intermediate routes. He does throw the deep ball very well, though.
Seneca and Sage, by comparison, did quite well considering they were both 4th round picks.
He looked awful, Gibson is a much better all-around back but he seems to be in the doghouse.
I mean, he was literally shot like a month ago. Pretty amazing recovery to play in the NFL that soon afterwards.
Might have brought him back too soon then because he averages like 2.5ypc so far on the year.

It will be interesting to see the numbers - the money they spent for one game a week was crazy.
It's shocking to me that, given the powerhouse that OSU is, traditionally, how few of their QBs get drafted early. I mean, they've basically been upper tier every season for the past 25 years, with only a few exceptions. And short of Haskins and Fields, no other first round picks.
