Nowell has been stupid good - 95.3% of minutes is crazy too!

Does PRPG take defense into account?

Imperfectly, as you might expect, but it does try to use DBPM and defense-related counting stats (e.g., rebounds, steals, blocks, maybe charges drawn) to estimate their defensive impact.

My 1/11 update. Feels like the league is slipping from 8-9 bids to 7 bids

I ran one leaving everything on default. ISU's record is lower, but seed one line higher. I'm going to do another with my projections (I can't see KU going 17-1 and I'd be shocked if BU ends up as low as Tech)

1. Kansas (17 - 1)
2. Texas (14 - 4)
3. Kansas St (9 - 9)
Defeated Iowa St based on winning percentage against #2 teams [Texas] (1-1).
4. Iowa St (9 - 9) Lost to Kansas St based on winning percentage against #2 teams [Texas] (0-2).
5. TCU (8 - 10)
6. Okla St (7 - 11)
With W Virginia, defeated Oklahoma based on winning percentage against #3 teams [Iowa St and Kansas St] (2-2). Defeated W Virginia based on draw (not actual placement: you must check yourself).
7. W Virginia (7 - 11) With Okla St, defeated Oklahoma based on winning percentage against #3 teams [Iowa St and Kansas St] (2-2). Lost to Okla St based on draw (not actual placement: you must check yourself).
8. Oklahoma (7 - 11) Lost to Okla St and W Virginia based on winning percentage against #3 teams [Iowa St and Kansas St] (1-3).
9. Baylor (6 - 12) Defeated Texas Tech based on winning percentage against #2 teams [Texas] (1-1).
10. Texas Tech (6 - 12) Lost to Baylor based on winning percentage against #2 teams [Texas] (0-2).

Nowell is SO good. He's the kind of guy at PG that you pretty much say, Nowell and 4 other dudes are going to win games.

Reminds me of the story about Jimmy Butler showing up to the Timberwolves practice one day, demanding to scrimmage the best five after him against him and the worst four on the team... and proceeding to demolish the other starters by himself with the scrubs. It is going to be fascinating to see how Lipsey, Grill, and Kalscheur try to defend that guy here soon because he's been unstoppable so far.

Torvik PRPG! for *only* Big 12 games --

View attachment 108105

-- holy moly Nowell and Carr are good... Nowell is 16/32 from three!
-- Kalscheur is in the range of a first-team all-conference player so far
-- Grill is on the cusp between second-team and third-team
-- Lipsey is in the range of an HM... looks like Gradey Nixon has him beat for FOTY, though
-- Osunniyi isn't too far behind him/has a shot at HM
-- Tyrese the Traitor is sucking eggs at #42 on the list
Further proof what I've been saying all year.

Lipsey >>> Tyrese

I've never doubted that.

Hunter is a better defender, but only incrementally so. Lipsey isn't as quick, but he's bigger and stronger.

Lipsey is a *much* more efficient scorer (though at lower volumes) but a thousand times better at running the PG position and involving his teammates. You give up a little bit on defense with Lipsey instead of Hunter but the offense is so much better and more fluid with him running the show.

I imagine Hunter would still be starting right now if he had stayed based on seniority and incumbency, but I would honestly take Lipsey if you forced me to choose between the two of them.

Not exactly sure.
We made it happen!

To be more specific --

View attachment 108073

The modal outcome is now a #2 seed! Wow!

Kansas in Lawrence is going to be tough, though. I don't expect to win that game. The way they coolly handled Oklahoma after being down late without any officiating shenanigans was impressive --

Just keep it within a possession or two and anything can happen. Kansas has an excellent starting five but a weak bench, so maybe TJ and the staff can figure out some strategy to try to exploit that.
We are starting Hawley, Jaz and Eli. They are going to start a meelee like in Slapshot and get bounced with three of KU starters.

I didn't realize he's another 5th year - he spent three years at Arkansas - Little Rock before transferring to KSU last year.

His Soph year ('19-'20) he put up almost the exact numbers - except fewer assists - as this year.

Lipsey:

Hunter:

Hunter has the higher upside. Lipsey has the higher floor and is far more steady. Absolutely incredible to see the local kid do this.

TJ and Blount are doing wonders with the PG position. CC Isaac Asuma
We don't really know what Lipsey's upside is yet though because he's not asked to do much yet in TJs offense. He's similar to Halibruton and Monte freshman year, you could see they would be really good but the team was so good they didn't need to hunt their points.

I have us tying with KU at 13-5 to win the league. You heard me.

I don't know how much of an impact this has, but they haven't had classes to attend during this stretch and likely have been getting more sleep. Research actually shows adequate sleep impact shooting percentage by about 9%. Getting up for 630am practice and then attending classes vs going home for a nap is a simple explanation
About that 9%....is it going from 50% to 50.45%, or going from 50% to 59%?

The teams we have been playing evidently haven't been taking naps

Here is one example of a research study looking at sleep and basketball performance. I imagine it's been conducted numerous times. This was the first to pop up in my search. This one was conducted on the Stanford men's basketball team, so a small sample size (13 men) but a relevant sample.

Measurements below were conducted at practices.
Sprint times improved by 4%.
Free throw percentage climbed from 79% to 88%
Three point % climbed from 68% to 77.3%
Athlete self rating of physical and mental well being in games climbed from 7.8 to 8.8 on a 10-point scale

All 13 players were faster
All 13 improved FT%
11 improved 3pt%

Adequate rest leading to better athletic performance is nothing new.
