MLB: ***2020 MLB Season Thread***

I guess I'm just wondering how you can logistically keep going if this happens often. The idea of qualifying for the playoffs is based on having each time have the same number of games. If you have teams having to take extended layoffs I don't know how that happens.

Same here, and I wonder the same about football this fall.

I'm a little confused on the timeline here. Marlins had a player test positive and contact tracing was done and those in contact tested negative. Now >10 players are testing positive. Did patient zero play while testing positive or was it just the know contacts which played while testing negative? I'm not sure we had positive players playing, but with this virus a negative does not mean you can't transmit especially with the lag times on testing.

It's going to make contact tracing very difficult if they rely solely on the positive player. Will they name team mates if it means they also have to sit out a game?

The one idea I heard earlier today is win% regardless of number of games played. It's not a good solution, but it might be the only one available. But that's under the assumption the season doesn't eventually get thrown out. I mean, we already have the Marlins with an outbreak, and an outbreak with the Phillies seems likely at this point. But what happens if/when another team has an outbreak, and they do the same things the Marlins did and expose another team(s) with their reckless behavior? It's one thing where the NBA and MLS is essentially keeping the entire league quarantined. But MLB isn't doing that. We didn't even get through opening weekend and the **** has already hit the fan. I fully anticipate the season won't be completed.

This whole thing is such a freakin cluster of clusters. This is all I have to say

Good news. Just cancel the Marlins anyways.

Seems logical for the Yankees and Phillies to resume play tomorrow (doubleheader?) assuming the tests continue to come back negative.

Just read the Yankees went back to NY so no game today if accurate report.

PHILADELPHIA — After a night of waiting here for the results of the Phillies COVID-19 tests, the Yankees packed up and went home. The second game in the two-game series was postponed on Tuesday morning, according to a league source.

While the results of the Phillies COVID-19 tests were not known Tuesday morning, the league source said that Wednesday night’s game between the two teams in the Bronx was still scheduled at this point. The Yankees, who decided to stay in Philadelphia after Monday night’s game in hopes of getting Tuesday night’s game in, will return to the Stadium and workout. - Daily News

And, cause 2020, I going to assume Wednesday's in the Bronx goes on and then Thursday half a dozen Phillies test positive and it's the start of a complete cluster.

On the plus side, our bullpen woes won't matter in the long run.
On the down side (besides the pandemic part), it'll waste a heck of an offense.
Yankees are playing the Orioles tomorrow and Thursday. Phillies are playing on Friday. The Marlins will not play till Monday and they'll play the Phillies.

That's the near term. This is gonna keep happening.
Certainly hope not, but this past weekend didn't exactly make me feel great that the current plan works. You can't have multiple teams have this happen, especially at once. Not only from the health side of things, but also logistically as far as schedules go.

If something doesn't change as far as protocols go, this will likely happen again and it might end up decimating the season and causing everything to be cancelled.

If that’s true, everyone involved should be suspended for a year without pay. Hell, next year too. What ******* idiots. Jfc
There has to be SOME sort of rule in place stating that you can't do these types of things right?

I guess they were given a 113 page handbook. Apparently they needed a whole page dedicated to their dicks.
