Can't really blame a country/city that will be underwater in a matter of years to use its biggest stage to try to raise awareness and encourage global change. But also not surprised that some people don't want to see it.

Yeah...I had no clue who he was, so I wasn't sure if he was the other "famous" person.

Not at all. It's just heavy-handed. I'm not criticizing their effort, per se (well, outside of making fun of it, I guess).
Especially from a country that has taken down more rainforest than all other countries combined.
Brazil's environmental record is horrendous.
Like I said, maybe I'm being superficial here. Look, I get what you're saying, but this is the same country that, despite horrific poverty, just spent megabucks for about 3 weeks worth of tourism.
I agree with what CycloneErik and KCClone said as well. Just also saying that I definitely understand wanting to use this big stage on an issue very important to the people of Rio. Rising sea levels really don't affect Iowans or Midwesterners the way they will affect people on the coasts, including Rio, so it's different

I think everyone would agree. It's just odd coming from a country with essentially zero environmental regulations.
The Wright brothers spent their adolescent years in Cedar Rapids does that mean we gave a claim?
That's what NBC/Universal does. It's one of the reasons why I don't get much weather from The Weather Channel anymore - I want what's going on in the weather, not lectures on how the world is coming to an end because of climate change.
The olympics just reminds me how horrible my geography is. I haven't heard of half these countries let alone know what continent they are on. You could make a solid drinking game out of this.
