I'm expecting us to contend for the second wild card spot. Maybe we'll get it, maybe we won't, but we should be in the hunt for it to the end. 2016 is when we start contending for the division title.

Seems every season they play the Padres mid-week. Give me a weekend series in San Diego! I'm not going to Dodger Stadium even if I'm paid to do so
So the Cubs wrap up 2014 with a 73-89 record, a seven game improvement over last year and their best record in four years. Lot of reasons for optimism about 2015 and beyond, I expect them to be in wild card contention next year with the addition of Bryant early in the season and hopefully another top of the rotation arm to go with Arrieta.
Joe Maddon has opted out of his contract with the Rays, and there is all kinds of buzz on Twitter that he may be headed to Chicago, most notably from Buster Olney.

I'd really love that but to be honest, I'm not sure how fair that is to Renteria. I've really liked the job he's done with Rizzo and he got Castro back on track.
No matter what, the pitching coach had better have a job with the Cubs for as long as he wants it. That guy is a miracle worker.

Agreed, no slight on Renteria but I think you have to at least call Maddon given his track record. And yes, Bosio is a genius.

Anyone who lets Bosio go is a moron. I agree, no matter what, that's can't happen.
I think I'd keep Renteria, too. He did a phenomenal job developing guys last year.
I guess I'm not sure I'd say he did a phenomenal job developing guys last year. Alcantara was off and on throughout the year. Baez definitely struggled. Soler played very well, but in a short time period. I don't think we have quite the body of work from Renteria to justify passing up on a guy like Maddon, who has contending in the historically toughest league in baseball with no payroll and no fan support.
How'd you like it if next week someone came to your office and said "Hey, we think you're great, but we hired Chuck to do your job. We do have a secretarial position open for you, though."

That's where I'm at, too. Have to like hiring an elite manager, but that's a rough deal for Renteria.

Yep, but that's business I guess. At least Rick still gets paid a lot of money.
But at the same time, if the Cubs passed on Maddon, I would be ******. Unfortunately for Rick, you cant pass on a guy like Maddon.
