MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

Honest question:

If you are a serious Cubs fan, and you happened to live equal distances from Wrigley and Principal Park, and you had a free ticket to either, which team would you go see? I'd honestly give some thought to seeing the I Cubs over the actual Cubs this year.

If you had a free ticket to spend a weekend in Venice Italy or in Des Moines and you lived equidistant...

Stupid question - Wrigley is worth the trip regardless of the product on the field. Been there once 20 years ago and still have really fond memories. Been to see the I-Cubs dozens of times back in the day and absolutely nothing special about the experience.

But yeah - the cubs suck.

I don't understand this. Every year people think the rotation is going to be awful and every year it's one of the best in baseball before the trade offs. Theo and Jed have been great in finding values of guys who have been hurt or not that good in previous years. They have done it every year and I expect them to do it again this offseason. Not to mention, they are actually going to spend some money. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them go after Lester hard. The strength of this years FA class is pitching, they will go after enough to have a good rotation again.

No doubt. Like someone mentioned, the Soriano contract comes off the books, and they already tried to spend on the deal Shark turned down. It's not like we're lining up to be fire sellers towards the trade deadline anymore.

You're basically ignoring the entire premise of the question and saying Chicago>DSM. He didn't ask which bar scene you would rather hit up after the game, he's asking which team would you rather watch right now. I'd probably take the I-Cubs ticket right now. Watching Soler, Bryant and Baez would be quite a bit more entertaining than what's in Chicago at the moment. And probably even more fun to watch than whichever players you saw in DSM "back in the day".

Cubs have already said multiple times they will be spending this year if they feel the player is a good fit for the Cubs.

If I had to guess, Cubs get Lester OR Shields, and Liriano to join the rotation and go for a 3 year deal for Nick Markakis or Nelson Cruz to cover right field (whichever the Orioles don't take back.) And I know thats expensive, but Soriano's contract is off the table, we have a **** ton of money to spend, and we could still afford Price when he's a free agent.

Personally, Cueto is the guy I most want to see the Cubs go after in FA, mostly because he's better and a couple years younger than the other top FA starters.

Maybe not. There were some loaded Iowa teams back in the day, like the outfield of Cory Snyder, Mel Hall, and Joe Carter.

I would love Cueto most of all, as well, but he is a $10M club option. No way they turn that down.

For some reason, I was thinking he was a player option. In any case, I'd honestly rather go after him in 2015 than Price. Go for Lester or Scherzer this year, then make a very big push for Cueto after next season.

Baez's July numbers: .318 BA, 8 HR, 1.071 OPS, 7 BB%, 23 K%. He'll be playing 2B once Bonafacio is traded.

Yep Baez getting hot and Bryant has been struggling a bit here of late. Addison Russell has been raking pretty good here the last week or so at Double A.

Baez hit another dinger tonight that was an absolute rocket. He nearly hit a second one to dead center that would have tied the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th (two 7-inning games tonight), but it hit the wall a few feet from the top and he had to settle for a double.

Bryant is definitely struggling a little, but the future definitely still looks very bright.

Every player is expected to go through slumps at some point in a season. It's the expectation of the other 8 players in the starting lineup to pick up for their slack. Baez is doing that now for Bryant.

Baez has homered and walked in game 2. OPS up to .823 on the year. Pretty impressive after how ****** his first 6 weeks were.

Ok I am ready to admit I was wrong. Soler will be in Chicago in September.

So it is extremely likely that Baez, Soler and Bryant will all be in the bigs in early 2015.

Russell and Almora have a good chance to be called up in late 2015 or early 2016 and it will be interesting to see if they fast track Schwarber because of his college experience like they did with Bryant.

The future is almost here and the Cubs are about to get good for a long time.

Best tweet I've seen so far says the Cubs trade Darwin Barney for a player to be named later, which most likely will be Darwin Barney after the Dodgers realize he's Darwin Barney
