Its really amazing how lowly recruiting services value kicking. I’m not saying they should be handing out 4 and 5 stars to kickers, but 247 has the no. 1 ranked punter at something like 0.8057. Come on. With all of my years as an Iowa State fan, I’d say that if we’d even had just average kicking over all of those years, we’d have averaged somewhere around one more win per year.

Agree. A great field goal kicker is arguably as important as most position players outside of QBs and maybe a stud running back. Bad kicking cost us 2 Big 12 North titles.

Wide Right, posts that we are getting a "5 star punter" because they quoted someone that says he graded equal to 5 stars. Not really the same. None of the so called recruiting services are ranking him anywhere near a 5 star.
He is one of the best kickers in the class, maybe the best, but none of the rankers are going to give him a 5 star rating that I can see. They just don't rate special teams that high.

I could be wrong though.

Yeah this is true, Not sure if you can call him a true 5 star, he is a 5 star when only considering other kickers.
But someone tell me what metric do you look at when you look at the star level? What rating does anyone officially go by?
It seams like everyone has a different rating depending on where you look, so which is the official one? Or is it really you just go by whatever rates them the highest?

These are honest questions, not sarcasm I really want to know. I'm sure someone that follows all the recruiting in much more detail than I do has some answers.
