**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

An element of tournament performance and eventual exit is it's the most-recent "happening," so it's natural it could overshadow all that came before, even if you don't value it any more than the regular season.

I try to remember (or "not forget") how the past season ISU started 16-0 and was ranked #2 for a short time, and how fun that was. Also think about how much a bummer the UC and at KU losses were, in retrospect it's not a huge deal.

Wish season had continued longer, potential Elite 8 for sure w/ Jefferson probably, but full-picture it was satisfying.

In those occasions when, say, an 11 seed reaches Elite 8 or even Final Four, sometimes as a First Four entrant, think about how sporadic the in-season results were. So three months that might include being fringe tournament team most of the time. The two weeks in tournament are thrilling, for sure, but that's like 1/8 of the season.

A higher power clearly favors EIU athletics.

Meanwhile we can't even get past Tax Day without a season-ending injury to a starter in football.
I like to think it’s God keeping us focused on what’s important.

That’s what I tell myself anyway.

It’s also helped me stay sober as I know being an Iowa State fan and drinking is a fast track to liver destruction.

Not even good enough to have interest from San Diego? Why did TJ miss so bad on transfers last year? The returners along with Blake take too much of the budget?
Because it cost a ton to keep our big 3. Blum has stated multiple times that they were looking elsewhere up until the final days of the portal, and we were able to gather some late fundraising to keep them here.

Less money and less need for transfers.

I didn’t used to be a bb coach. I’m not one now, but I didn’t used to be either. But Florida’s game plan in that game was insanely bad. They had a huge size advantage down low. How do you take advantage of that? Have your seven footers out shooting threes, which they’ve never been good at. And don’t get me started on the last play - down one with 4.8 to play and they can’t foul you so you let them push you towards the sideline and you don’t get a shot. Arghhh…
No matter what these suckeye people on here think…. They were not one the best 8 teams, nor were they # 15 or whatever someone had them ranked in a final rankings poll/guess. Not even top 25 …. That’s fact !

I agree it was TJ's weakest transfer class so far. Current class looks great though!
I'd agree at the moment it does. But what happens if all the freshman play along with Mitchell? That would be at the expense of transfers. We might think differently by this time next year.

Milan enters portal with do not contact what does that mean for us? Florida bound or back to Iowa state? Curious who the school is

Hes not coming back. If the rumors are true he is all in on the NBA. He probably either has a school picked out or until after he makes his draft decision, he could take off the "Do not contact". For now he wants to be left alone

If all the freshman and Xzavion play significant minutes, that will be amazing. Just like high school recruits, you can only go by what you see. That isn't always going to translate to what you want them to do. Every team misses on recruits and transfers. Having money may make an amazing player less hungry and thus play worse.

In the end, these guys have been competing for playing times their whole lives. If they come expecting something to be handed to them, they aren't a good fit for what TJ demands.

TJ and his staff evaluates them all prior to coming here and then again every day at practice. His job is to play who he thinks is better and who has earned it.

The NCAA Tournament definitely matters but it can also surely skew the perception of a season. Teams make runs when they probably shouldn’t but that’s the beauty of it.

NCST made the Final Four as a middling team who got CRAZY hot in the post season and then their coach was fired a year later lol.
