*** Official Kentucky vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Srsly. Results like today should definitely challenge athletic departments and NIL collectives (are they still a thing?) to dramatically rethink NIL and roster building. Clearly, there is a need to retain coaches and players to develop a winning culture, system and chemistry where each player is optimized for their role and meshes with the other players. You can't do that with just a big load of NIL $ for a year.
Three of the top five NIL spending teams are out of the tourney.

Probably a thread unto itself.
No matter the ISU sport, 2-5ish minutes into a game, doom n gloom.
Early post in today's game included "...embarrassing..."
More embarrassing?
Morons, that make conclusions, mere minutes into a game.
I used to attend football games at a highly successsful small town high school. My family had many students and players through the years. I had to sit away from my sister. If we didn't score the first posession or if the other team would have a decent first drive or we had a penalty. She would ALWAYS ask "what is wrong with them tonight?" My sister and game threads are avoided during all sporting events.

Buchanan has been awesome for us this year. There is a small vocal minority on here that has a problem with him but he is a near perfect fit for TJ’s style of play
He struggled a lot in the mid to latter part of the conference season as did a lot of guys but ever since the first Arizona loss and more specifically the first half of the Arizona State game when he was terrible tbh, he and the team have been locked in big time.

I said all season that I want to see this team on a neutral court to get a gauge on how good they are. Some teams are like that when they slog through conference season then feel rejuvenated once the conference season grind ends and that's exactly what we're seeing here. The energy, the engagement, the attention to detail, it's all been spot on since the end of the regular season and it all started with that second half against Arizona State.

Maybe my most unpopular opinion: One of the most tiresome things on CF are the posts from people who get worked up after a win because people pointed out in real time, when the team was playing poorly, that the team was playing poorly. None of them, that I have seen, are ever in these game threads contradicting these opinions at the time, only afterward, pointing out how much better a fan they are. It strikes me as a kind of peacocking thing, but who knows.

Game threads are a roller coaster and you have to be at least this tall to ride. Personally I love em.

Meh….. I was in the car industry for 25 years… I gotta tell you some of you cats are not good at all on the insult train. Again back when I did post on the Iowa board when it was still there Hawkeye report of course I’m talking about and whatever the hell it became there for a while… I was pretty talented to run people up the flagpole.

But honestly, it’s really kind of useless isn’t it… It’s not really all that hard to get along with people. I will tell you though, I have found generally fan, especially rival fan bases. Do not like to acknowledge they’re just more of the same. Every fan base has the same chunks of fans, some friendly and not really all that upset about their rivals & some that can’t be happy unless their rival sucks and all things in between.

It is what it is
Sound like a used car salesman!

Sound like a used car salesman!

And again with the ridiculous insults…preferring to be pleasant, logical, and understanding, and not getting into the silly, hypocritical vitriol between rivals… Sure that sounds like a used car salesman..doh?!

That’s the best an Iowa State graduate could come up with for an insult…yikes ;)

I'm sure it was likely said earlier, but it is great to see the team not overly celebrate making the sweet 16. Even Lipsey commented about this. 2 years ago they were pouring water over each other, celebrating like they made a huge accomplishment. After beating a blue blood team to make the S16 this year, it was a muted celebration. Just business as usual.

THAT'S a sign of great program growth.

I just commented on the BYU board that BYU's PG, Rob Wright, could learn a LOT from Lipsey's game. You wouldn't believe the grief I got for saying that. BYU fans just don't want to look at what is staring them in the face sometimes. I'd take Lipsey over Wright any day because Lipsey isn't just a scorer. He's a POINT GUARD who makes EVERYONE on his team better, not to mention he is a junkyard dog on defense. Wright is a defensive liability.
Least controversial thing ever is that Lips is in a different league than Rob freaking Wright.

I think the best teams are the ones with a strong culture who focus on retaining a strong core of players, and just supplement that with key additions at the weak spots.

These high budget groups of journeymen just can't match the cohesion of that, even while spending a truckload of money.

I was one that was posting when the team was playing poorly. The team couldn't hit a shot, which was so frustrating and felt similar to games like Pitt from years past. Also, the team was giving great effort, which felt unfair. I had to leave for an event so I didn't get to post positively when things were going great because I was driving. I didn't want people thinking that I only post when things are bad (Darius Beiber). I do admit that posting when things aren't going well is a way for me to cope.

Exactly why I've completely stopped reading game threads once the game starts. I'll come back in after the game to join analysis, but I don't need to read a bunch of hysterical, irrational whining and screaming after every bad pass or missed shot. You go ahead and have fun.

Iowa State has the opportunity to beat down Sankey three straight games. I hope the opportunity affords itself.

Kissinger is one of the best officials in basketball, and he didn't earn that reputation by only officiating Iowa State games

After watching this, what stood out to me was how Kentucky really just played as a collection of guys, not a team. Oweh wants to create, and did so at times, but—and thanks to Santa Clara for giving a blueprint—Iowa State's physicality wore on him, and even a very-talented, very-in-shape player can get tired. When he lost his burst, and Iowa State's help defenders stole the ball a few times even when he got in the lane, he really did nothing to try to help his team in other ways. Aberdeen much the same. His stepbacks looked really pretty, and might make him a better NBA prospect than a lot of Iowa State players, but once shots stopped falling he was kind of a warm body. In short, I think injuries and not having a team identity contributed to their team quiet quitting. Their best offense was actually when they'd come away with a tough rebound or tip the ball back into play, because it forced them to actually pass to the open guy and make Iowa State rotate

Regarding the coaches, I don't know what will happen with Pope, but I sure wouldn't want to work for a school whose fans want an alumnus and former player kicked to the curb because his team underachieved one season. Yes, Kentucky fans would say even the Sweet Sixteen last year is underachieving, but it's not like he's been terrible
