So..... had an interesting conversation with an ISU fan in Boulder during the game. He told me, "It won't be long before JTS sells alcohol, maybe even next season." I asked how he came up with that.... He said the reason why it currently isn't happening, is because Wendy is against it... But when she resigns in December it will no longer be a roadblock. Of course Jamie has a good relationship with her, so he goes along with the idea.

Full disclosure: I have zero evidence that this is a thing or not, but it is something that seems interesting and COULD happen depending on the next president ISU selects.

Pretty sure this has been one of several rumors floated here in the past, others being a big donor is against it, ISU counsel said no, and Jamie obviously.

Entirely possible that Wintersteen has been against it, but Pollard hasn't just "gone along with it," he's been very publicly and very adamantly opposed to it. To the point where it will look ridiculous to reverse course.

This - that said, Pollard has all but said we'll have it sooner than later because they need all the money they can get. If we don't have by next year, I'd be shocked if we don't by 2027.

If in fact its been Wintersteen et al that have been against beer sales at sporting events. JP being publicly against it has probably been for two reasons. 1: To gain support from and stand up for something you know your boss cares about to have a good working relationship when you need things. 2: Recently, knowing that Wendy will retire and also that you will need to ask for funds from student fees, the University, the State, etc. you can change course on beer sales and say we are doing everything we can on our end, we really didn't want to sell beer stadium wide but we are taking every step we can to increase revenue.

This is what I've been hearing for years as well. Jamie knows that it's A revenue stream (not going to start the argument of how much revenue that is per year, which has been argued for years on this site), but Wendy has been against it. Jamie is the face of athletics, and Wendy is his boss, so he's not going to publicly be pro-beer because then it will look like he's in a riff with his boss, even though I think she ultimately makes the call. We will see for sure if that is true with the new president, unless the incoming president is also against it.

Yeah, I don't buy #1. Pollard doesn't have to fight not to sell beer because not selling beer is the status quo. He could simply shrug and say sorry, but we aren't going to sell beer right now and move on. Instead he makes a big show of it, calls his fans slobs, etc. I can't imagine he's doing that to win favor from Wintersteen, because 1) I don't see any indication that is the type of boss that demands some silly public show of loyalty in that way, and 2) she needs him more than he needs her, and they both know it.

As for #2, of course he can change course. He'll just look ridiculous in doing so. Needing to raise revenue in every way possible was a known thing like five years ago when this debate started.

I don't think Pollard is playing 4-D chess here. I think he doesn't want to sell beer and won't unless he has to.

An opinion that I think will be true: eventually we will sell beer in the stadium and then there will be threads from people on why they can't leave the stadium to go drink the beer from their trunk. Also, there will be threads on why is the beer so expensive.

Some may think he looks ridiculous changing course. Most will recognize that he had no choice but to change course as the AD will go under if he doesn't find any and all new revenue streams.
