South Dakota Pregame Thread

I'm honestly really curious how we approach this game from a game management side since we've already played a conference opponent. In the past, the staff really does not want to show a lot and use these games as more of a scrimmage just to get some reps in and get the game in hand early so younger guys can get some playing experience with only about 10 different plays ran. Do we use this same approach, or do we essentially go all out now that we have a game in hand?
I feel like the cat is out of the bag now so we might as well treat like a regular game.

Kind of my thought as well. I feel like if we go with this approach, it could turn into a game like Arkansas State was last year. All coaches are paranoid naturally though, so I doubt we see much more than what we saw this past Saturday.

Against KSU I thought the defense (except for corner) and receivers/TE rotated well. There was zero rotation on the o-line and Abu and Carson had every carry. I expect more rotation in those two position groups, and maybe more snaps for James at safety. I'm curious whether we will see some younger players worked in at corner with the game still on the line. Williams, Cooper and Bell look like the clear top three but we will likely need a fourth to step up at some point this year.

Well, spend a wad of money for 5-6 games in a place that doesn't sell beer.........or for one game where drinking is encouraged.

Priorities man.
If your priority is beer for three hours a day, 5-6 times a year, you’re either an alcoholic or an idiot.

I think we don’t show much—and still blow them off the ball, break big runs, and complete big passes.

The basics still work with a qualitative and quantitative advantage.

Eddie Lemos also moved from safety to corner. I'd love to pick the coach's brains on how what they see in a player to warrant a position change. They certainly seem good at it, at least in the secondary.
What they see is that we’re short on corners, with Beni being green and Coffey apparently out. And Ellens a 165 lb true frosh.

Re above, if Coffey is out (for whatever reason) Beni is still green, and Mason Ellens is a year away, that’s why they slid Eddie Lemos there.

Scrappy and hard working is better than nothing—and he impressed in the Spring.

Just a guess, but it seems like we have the luxury of some great options at safety and Cooper has good coverage skills. Also a nice bonus to have a hard hitting corner in run support.

That's my hope. With a methodical opening drive TD.

Did not realize Coffey might be out, thanks.
