Breakout player prediction

get it together people!

Watch any break away run of his and convert yards/Sec to miles/hr

I want top end speed figures (hell, give me feet per second per second for acceleration too!)

and want them Now!

Walter Payton was similar in a way.

It's fundamentals and then some guys just kind of 'have it'.
Hard to describe Payton. Whatever “it” is, he had it. Guess I’d call him slippery.

Rice was SLOW! But still found ways to get open. It’s not all about your 40 time.
That was an urbanmyth, born of nothing documented, that no one bothered to dispute because they found it useful.

Decades later, one former 49er coach said he actually ran a sub 4.5 pre-draft, but no one paid any attention.

It was too much fun to think he was slow, and that good.

I have a couple breakout players for the 2025 season for you all.

1. Tamatoa McDonough (DE) - This guy is a massive human at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds and led the Ivy League in sacks last season at Yale. I expect this guy to make some noise. This is a guy where you won't be talking about him in August or September, but by November everyone looks to on 3rd down to get a sack.

2. Abu Sama (RB) - I don't know if you all consider this guy to be a "breakout player", but I think he gets back on track this year. We all expect Carson Hansen to by THE guy at that position, but Abu still is a homerun threat every time he is on the field. If he can be better at finding the gaps and holes in the defense, we could be in for freshman season Abu Sama.

3. Cooper Alexander (TE) - If it wasn't for an injury in the late stages of fall camp last year, this guy would have had some major playing time last season. We all know the guys ahead of him in Brahmer and Burkle, but with the way OC Taylor Mouser has talked about the TE usage in fall camp, look for Alexander to be heavily involved. Brahmer and Burkle will draw a lot of attention when they are on the field together at the same time, so that leaves a lot of opportunity for Alexander to shine.

Not smart enough to say who, but I'll go with a guy from the DL. Other than Dom, new guys are going to get a lot of snaps. And my guess Coach Heacock will rotate DL players pretty liberally during September.

IMO by season end we'll be talking a lot about a player like: Ezeogu, McDonough, Malone, Moore, Gilbert, Carnell, Butler ...
