'People are flat-out slobs': Jamie Pollard

I went to St. Louis this past weekend for a Cardinals game, and it was mind blowing how easy and efficient the concession stands were. They had a bunch of hot dogs and other things ready, and all you had to do was walk up, grab what you wanted, and then go to the cashier to pay for it. It was so fast there was basically no line. It would be awesome if JTS could do the same.

I was at a concert in Denver at Empower Field, and I could walk into a little section with coolers, grab beer/water, and walk out through a scanner that billed my CC. i didn't stop at a cashier.

Iowa generated 3.2 million from beer sales last year

Here's the thing like 80% of the schools with D1 athletics sell alcohol. North Carolina sold 4 million worth.

This is revenue not net profit.

But if it wasn't a profit generator would they still do it?

It does not solve all money issues, but its foolish to turn away from any legal $$$$. Especially when your AD is saying school has money woes.

What's the old saying "Beggers can't be choosers"

If you can find where I said I’m against it, please let me know.

So that’s 5% of 20M. Is 5% better than 0%?

Sure, but is it impressive? No. Once again, I never said I’m against it. I’d still go out at half if that would still be allowed. Just merely pointing out reality of the profit situation. Also, as much as I may not like JP at times, he has my full confidence that he’ll be able to find other means that will be bigger than 5%.

Keep charging the consumer more is not sustainable.

To me, I really don’t care if they sell beer or not personally- we all know they would charge $30 for a tall boy of Ames Lager or Busch Light. I do think that while it will generate little revenue, it is at least something to show the average fan that you are changing to adapt to a new era while improving the fan experience for those that want to spend $30 for a beer.

In a time where fans are being asked to give more and more, the AD needs to do more to reach the average fan- even if that means giving up their position on this. You can’t keep asking people to give more and more with nothing in return.

This is where I'm at too. I'm a small donor season ticket holder who has seen all costs increase the last few years. JP needs to be careful, season tickets were down this year and that trend will continue if you he continues to go deeper into the fans pockets. I know several people who are/were donors that didn't renew their seats this year.

And I still say if you can't go 3 1/2 hours without "enjoying" a beverage, maybe you need to check into a clinic somewhere.

Not everyone tailgates for hours prior to the game either though. Like a lot of younger fans with families, we've had to show up right before the game because of kids activities etc. On those days I would love to be able to enjoy a beer or two at a game. Get off your high horse, not everyone is drinking to get sh!t housed.

Then go somewhere where they serve alcohol during games. ISU doesn't. Nobody is being holier than thou. Maybe we've just been around drunks too much where "a drink or two" turns into five or six and decorum and your balance fly out the window and you go stumbling around making a nuisance of yourself. Hardly anyone stops at one or two drinks. The purpose of alcohol is to get tipsy. Otherwise, you'd just be drinking soda pop. So don't tell me you stop at one or two. I'm not buying it.

If somebody is looking to get loaded, they aren't going to do it on $12 tall boys...

If you're not against it then I'm not sure what you're doing, everyone has been pretty reasonable in there estimates of how much/little it would bring in. Nobody seems to think beer sales wipes out the $20m shortfall.

A restaurant? Seriously? Yes, I've been to a restaurant where they serve alcohol and no, not everyone is falling down drunk and tipsy. But I've also been to a sports bar that doubles as a restaurant and everyone is absolutely falling down drunk and/or tipsy. You're comparing apples and oranges in one of the most outrageously stupid posts I've ever witnessed.
For f*ck sakes now you're just making things up.

Your analogy fails when I couldn’t care less if we sold beer or not. Again, I’m just amused by some who think it’s some even decent profit generator, because it really isn’t when you take away overhead.

Fans have to pay a god damn processing fee for a grass lot parking pass, do you think that's not making money for the AD? It all adds up.

I agree, the school needs to look into it and I'm sure they are. But if Beggers can't be choosers- are fans fine when suddenly they are deprived of their historical trend to pound 3 quick $0.83 Busch Lights at their own tail gate at halftime and instead are now locked in the stadium and forced to buy $10 Busch Lights in the concourse. Because just a heads up- if JTS starts selling alcohol the first thing shut down the ability to exit and reenter.

Sporting KC has this set up too, it's really slick. The only way you could do this at Jack Trice would be to tear down the current stands and build new.

If JP doesn’t believe we can profit anything from selling beer in the stadium, then fine, don’t do it.

But I don’t think he has said that has he? He said it’s because of people over indulging or something? Which is total BS…. that’s all I’m saying. If that’s really what he’s worried about, then don’t let people drink in the tailgate lots… or the restaurants in CyTown…. or the south end zone, etc. He’s being hypocritical if that’s the reason he’s using.

And you have to buy each game individually.
Last year as a season ticket holder I was able to purchase individual public parking passes. Is that not an option this year?
