At the Big 12 press event last week, when asked to single out youngsters impressing, the first name out of CMC's mouth was Ryver Peppers. Personally, I've been wowed by Ryver since watching his film at the time of his commitment in the winter. CMC mentioned him during spring ball, too, iirc.

Jayden Jackson was on campus for spring ball as well. His h.s. achievements are highly praiseworthy, too. He's listed at 217 pounds, Montgomery-sized. Ryver is 190. Both pack a lot into sub-6 foot frames.

(Edit: I erred, it looks like. 247 reports that Jayden enrolled at ISU last month.)

Yep, Carson Hansen and Abu Sama are the RB bell cows, and frosh redshirt Dylan Lee - it was Blum I think who said that last fall the staff believed he has the highest ceiling in the RB room - is set to see his first action this fall. And no one, I hope, is forgetting the quick, powerful, savvy runner Aidan Flora, one of my fave Clones, for sure. But if you haven't, take a couple of minutes to watch Ryver and Jackson film.

Ryver Peppers (and the way this kid has sailed through troubles life has thrown at him is remarkable. Top-notch student, too, iirc. Nickname? How about Buster for seam buster!):

Jayden Jackson (again, iirc, standout in Texas's 3A h.s. class.)

*Carson Hansen. But yeah, it should be a strong room. I still think that their success depends on Hansens health and Sama figuring out how to read the holes/be more patient.

Agree. But the word (CW & Blum podcast for reference) is that Ryver is gonna play this fall. No doubt. Looking forward to that, but our upperclassmen - Hansen, Sama, Flora - our the RB force. (Lee only a r-frosh.)

Side note: Did not realize we have three bye weeks this season. Have we had three before? Thought it was two last fall.

'Chase' Hansen, I don't have a clue what I did there. Good grief. Thanks for the correction

That's gonna be a crowded room of potential. Perhaps we can distribute some extra snaps to these guys in the slot.

Wing-T (my all-time favorite offense). The Wing got plenty of action on counters, right? So deceptive, tricky. I'm not an indepth football guy, so there's a reason no one runs it today, I'm sure.

To be effective, the wing backs had to be quick and deceptive (small), but they were susceptible to big hits on the outside. Which is not a good combination to get guys to make it through a season.

Man alive---both have great RB eyes and ability to find the openings, but Peppers has another gear when he gets an opening. It will be fun to watch how that burst of speed translates to the college level as well as how these two guys can find the openings in Big 12 (and other ISU opponent) defensive backfields.

Don't hate me, guys. Here's a photo of wingback Mike Hagler from 1957 Rose Bowl (I was a TOE fan until I matured and learned better). Hagler was a little guy but made lots of hay, as I recall.

Couldn't Townsend, Peppers play wingback now and then if called upon to do so? (For Packer fans, no. 11 is Bob Jeter, longtime DB in Green Bay.)

College defenses today would blow it up about every play.

I just hope Sama can get it going this season, after that KSU game a couple of years ago, he seemed like the next back to follow Hall and Montgomery, to the NFL. We get flashes but nothing more. We need to have him or one of the other backs to have a monster season.
