RECRUITING: Cyclones earn commitment from in-state linebacker Will Hawthorne

As long as this thread was resurrected, I’ll say something that I’ve commented on elsewhere.

This kid is big, he can run, and he hits like a Mack truck.

In my considered opinion—and I’ve been doing this a long time—the best linebacker recruit at ISU since a guy named Blair.

Who, for that matter, didn’t actually play linebacker as a Cyclone.

With the depth in the room, special teams as a frosh.

I'm a bit amazed when a track record at a school stands for 20+ years with all the changes in fitness, training and nutrition.

But guess to show on a micro/school level, being a freak athlete is a big differentiator.
There was a state record that last 35 years and another that was around 30. Sometimes a kid comes through that just has it.

10.86 in late April
10.82 - state qualifying meet (May 15)
10.84 - state prelims
10.90 - state finals
Anchored Gilbert's 4x100 state champs and 4x200 runner-up.
Saw Stecker anchor Spirit Lakes 2nd place in 4x100. He's a big kid, wonder if he will outgrow safety.

Edit. Ethan ran 1st leg and his brother ran anchor.

As my Grandma would say, "My goodness gracious!"
As a good friend/Spencer high school teacher says, via his students, "Clones are cool, Iowa U, not......"
This younger gen?
The daze of Hawk whatever favoritism, is on an increasingly short leash.
Who YOUNG (add African American), would prefer IU over ISU?
