I will ask the question that was asked earlier. Outside of Milan and lipsy, tell me the next three best recruits he’s had at ISU. 4 years here, what have his HS recruits done at other schools?
Eli King was a miss (and he was a highly regarded 4 star) and Watson has been stuck behind better older players, but as far as the others it’s really too early to tell. They need time to develop, but as I said they were all pretty much highly recruited 4 star (& one 5 star) recruits. Look we’re not going to sign multiple 5 star McDonalds All Americans that are going to contribute right away. I think TJ can recruit quality high school talent and you obviously don’t so just leave it at that.

So is it the players transferring for more playing time or the coaches running them off? I really don't understand coaches asking them to leave when we only play 8 guys and have 13 roster spots.

So we don't have JR Rock anymore but we'll bring in someone that never plays either to take his place. It just seems like not much progress will ever be made developing players using this method. We basically are just cycling through new players every year that will never see the court.
Relax. This is the era of NIL and no limit transfers. Every school is having the same turnover. Kids want to play and if there isn't a path at one school there will be one at another. JT wasn't pushed out but told he wasn't going to start next year if he stayed thus decided to leave. No bad blood.

I forgot all about Eli King. He had some good HS highlights!

The reality is freshmen are just cheap labor at this point. You need practice bodies and you can't afford to being paying everyone on the roster serious NIL money. The top-50 type recruits you hope they can come in and contribute. Beyond that, if you get them there and they wind up being better than you thought, great. If not, you've got yourself a practice player on the cheap.

I mentioned this in another thread but I'm amazed you aren't seeing more of these guys go mid-major. If you are Rock or Fish, you now have 2 years with absolutely 0 meaningful game film to use in your recruitment. Wouldn't you have rather gone mid-major, played some over the last 2 years and now potentially be in a position to transfer up?

Back again! This time with a hopefully working laptop for a bit. I'll get this more formatted and updated later on but for now I want to at least get the framework out there

I'm relaxed, I honestly dont know how it all goes down nowadays. I assume it's always mutual?

I played another sport in college at a lower level, was brought into the coaches office both my junior and senior year and told I wouldn't start and that I was being recruited over. I was allowed to stay on scholarship though and I ended up getting some PT my Senior year. I was never "encouraged" to transfer down to a lower level though for PT although that was alwasy an option. I guess it's just a completey different world now.

If it’s too early to tell if they will develop, then why do they get shown the door? Obviously TJ doesn’t believe they can develop and be solid at ISU.

I know this is the era of plug and play, but a player like Nojas being told to walk after one season is tough. People like to point to his play against Lipscomb but those are the same people who were the ones ripping on Rocco Becht from his little bit of playing time his freshman year I would bet. He had the tools but didn’t shine in that little time. We are willing to spend a few more million on NIL but we won’t give out 2 more scholarships at probably 30k each?

Finally got the front page updated. Thank you mods for not changing my name to something involved with erectile dysfunction, although I probably deserve it sometimes
Missing Jackson on the leaving list.

Shown the door or left on their own? I’m going to say neither of us know that for sure. I would lean towards left on their own, otherwise, why were Watson and Fish not “shown the door”. I’m sure TJ presents all of his players with an honest assessment of where they stand after the season and leaves it up to them as to whether or not, they want to put in the work to earn playing time

Oh, Watson was shown the door pretty well. Ole Miss we needed athletic players on the floor, Watson has that, he never saw the floor. He was told easily right there, you aren’t good enough here. Fish did leave last year, no one picked him up and we had someone leave so he was let back in so he had a place to land. Fish was told to move on last year and TJ told Watson that this year by not playing him when his athleticism was needed.

But it took 3 years for Watson to find his way out of the door that TJ showed him!!! And are you related to Fish or does TJ let you sit in on the end of season meetings where he tells these players to leave?

If you think kids aren’t told you aren’t going to see any minutes here, I don’t know what to tell you. A freaking slow footed walk on saw minutes against ole Miss but a kid who may be the most athletic on our team and had played a decent amount seasons before doesnt isn’t non verbally being told to leave?

Nojas has not entered to people’s knowledge but one of the coaches best friends reports the day after the loss that he’s going to enter……I wonder where this info probably came from?

Do you think Watson and Cade play the same position? You think Watson is going to be able to bring the ball up the court and initiate offense?

No I don’t think Watson can but against Ole Miss they had cade in with Tamin at times. Cade is a huge D liability and once the ball crosses half court is basically a hole on offense.

I think he lost confidence as the season progressed. As I mentioned above, he looked pretty good in the Auburn game.

Iirc he had one of the worst turnovers of the season vs. Auburn on an inbound and that's saying something on the season and even that game.

I think there's talent there and hopefully he stays and it shows out.

When someone that was in Watsons position group was hurt, Milan, he played.

Kelderman played because we lost one of his position group players and one was hurt.

It shouldn’t be this hard to understand

I don't care about position. Watson could guard 1-4 and is 100000000x the athlete Kelderman is. We didn't need Watson to play point and bring the ball up court because we have numerous others who could (Tamin, Jones. Jefferson) but we did need his athleticism and length on defense and chose not to use it. So yes the message was sent passive aggressively.

Probably had nothing to do with Watson’s lack of handle and lack of outside threat . . .

I bet they planned to play him but that went out the window when we got behind. You don’t put your defensive specialist in down 10.

When a team is on a 20-2 run you also don’t put in a Defensive liability, but in went kelderman.
