Rohde reminds me a bit of Scott Christopherson.

2022-2023 freshman of the year putting up 17.1 ppg in the Summit League.

need another pg to pressure other teams guards, take away some of Tamin’s punishment on defense. Hopefully the freshmen can develop to help relieve our loss of Keeshon and Cujo. Hopefully the freshmen Rock will develop to spell a portal center.

I'd really like an experienced combo PG that can back up Tamin but also be a scoring threat at the 2.

We have a great freshman class coming in and I think surely one or two of them are going to make a push for minutes, but I'd like us to be fairly set in the top 7 or 8 so that their minutes are because they are too good to keep off the floor, rather than out of necessity.

The eye test is a great place to start. Those metrics leave a lot to be desired if they had us 9th or 10th. My guess those metrics were based on the whole season. What would they have ranked ISU over the last 2 months?

Ole Miss was our worst performance of the season. But go back and look at most of our other losses and the defense wasn't elite. And in fact, not average in those losses. A lot of the elite defense mantra for this season was based on TJ's first 3 seasons.

The first half of the season our trapping defense's success in forcing turnovers and creating points hid a lot. But the reality is we struggled in staying in front of opposing players driving.

We missed the ability to switch that Jones and Ward possessed

Just watched the ISU-Wazzu game recap for Cluff on YouTube.

Pros
- Dude was not afraid to fight with Robert Jones
- He was not easy to score on in the paint.
- We had favorable mismatches and he still defended well. He had Milan clamped up and Milan made an incredible move to score
- Effort wise, appears willing to run through a brick wall

Cons
- Looked lost at times trying to box out
- Sometimes got a little misplaced defensively
- Not near as athletic as Jackson

Overall, I’d say a slight drop from Big Rob defensively, a huge leap offensively, but effort wise very, very similar.

Not as athletic as Jackson, umm that’s bad isn’t it?

I am not sure what the freshmen bring to the table. What we saw yesterday needs to be fixed. No one fast enough to stay in front of speedy pg, no one fast enough to create blow by layups, no one who can dribble the ball under trapping pressure. Tamin is Ok in all 3 areas, but he gets hurt A LOT. We are losing KG , who is the fastest defender and ball handler and leads in assists. We are losing CUJO, who is the best all around player. We are going from 3 great guards to maybe none, depending on injuries. Heise might step up to greatness. We don't want a walkon playing PG ever again. We need to make sure speed, handling, passing are covered - without saying Tamin is going to magically fill this role 40 minutes/game and never get hurt.

If you're interested in seeing some Batemon, oh buddy do I have a video for you.

I would love to see Batemon start next year. Batemon and Lipsey starting, with Heise and Toure getting minutes as backups. It would be good to land a 6'6"-ish SF/SG type who can drive to the bucket.

The big from South Dakota State would be a nice addition, but getting an athletic big similar to McKay or Ward would be huge.

Oscar Cluff is meeting with coaches in Ames today
I posted this in the Dishon Jackson thread but Oscar Cluff finished the year as #1 in Player Efficiency Rating. In the past 15 years, the following players also earned that recognition: Zach Edey, Keegan Murray, Luka Garza, Zion Williamson, Frank Kaminsky, Kelly Olynyk, Anthony Davis, Kenneth Faried, Demarcus Cousins.

That is quite the list. Oscar is a bit under the radar because he played at South Dakota State and has a bit of an under the rim, old man, Georges Niang style of game. EXTREMELY EFFICIENT! You pair him in the front court with the skill level and passing ability of Joshua Jefferson...WHOA!

#1 on my want list by a wide margin! If true he was on campus I hope we dont let him leave without a commitment.

Right, but this is for next year. Jones won't be here next year. He was kind of a unicorn...not sure we'll land another 17+ppg guy that's willing to come off the bench. We need that player in the starting lineup.

He wasn’t willing to come off the bench. He wanted to come off the bench.

That was 12 months ago...but I agree we need a guy that is willing to be physical, and go up strong.

Either that or someone skilled enough to just get the job done. I think a problem this year was we sacrificed some of our ability to guard multiple positions for size. I don’t think that’s the best formula for us. We’re going to have to do something different with Keshon gone now. Being able to switch everywhere and being able to sag off with length is better for us.

I want us to get longer and faster. We were an overall slow team this year.
