2025 Transfer Options

Just watched the ISU-Wazzu game recap for Cluff on YouTube.

Pros
- Dude was not afraid to fight with Robert Jones
- He was not easy to score on in the paint.
- We had favorable mismatches and he still defended well. He had Milan clamped up and Milan made an incredible move to score
- Effort wise, appears willing to run through a brick wall

Cons
- Looked lost at times trying to box out
- Sometimes got a little misplaced defensively
- Not near as athletic as Jackson

Overall, I’d say a slight drop from Big Rob defensively, a huge leap offensively, but effort wise very, very similar.

Heise is not a starter regardless if next year's team is going to take a step forward. Need a SG/Wing that's a major scoring threat. Without that addition, I'm not sure the ceiling improves much from this season. So, in this scenario I'm seeing Rohde as the 6th man. Heise as the 7th,8th? Again, they seem very similar.
Heise played his best offense down the stretch as a starter. I don't know if that means the team will be better off with him starting, but it's been a real luxury to have Jones' instant offense off the bench.

Really good footwork. Nice jump hook with either hand. Much more fluid than Jackson and Chattfield. Good free throw shooter and is a 63% from the field.
Will add he looks much more athletic in a South Dakota uniform than in the Washington State game. I think he is more athletic than Jackson and Chattfield, but I know it's a high light film. He went 21-15 vs. Alabama and 14-14 against McNeese (Two NCAA tournament teams who won at least one game). Went 9-9 with 4 assists against Colorado. My opinion he can hold up athletically in the Big 12.

I am not concerned with Athletic ability as much as I am concerned with a guy who is not soft as a pillow and will go up hard and finish. That game was a few years ago. The kid has improved since then.

This kid is a maniac smashing on everyone. Only has played 1 year at a mid major. Could be a willing off the bench guy in a step up in competition

Good stats as a freshman

From Italy. Make sure they stop by the Barilla pasta plant if he visits. There's an Italian flag out front to make him feel at home. Obvious NIL deal in the making there also.

Ok I'll give you the offensive side if he's more efficient, I'm willing to be proven wrong there. Gotta be a drop off on defense though. And that is an area we need to add to, not take away from after watching that shellacking yesterday. Guys not keeping up, out of position. Maybe he's a smart player, and makes up for lack of quickness on that end? Idk

But as the roster sits
1. Lipsey: ++ defender
2. Opening
3. Mommy: - defender
4. Jefferson: neutral defender
5. Jackson: neutral to - defender

Rohde: neutral defender?
Heise: + defender
freshmen class TBD

As it sits I believe we need an athletic SG that can score and is at minimum a + defender ($$), and an athletic big/rim protector ($). If Jackson walks then it's likely a Cluff as well as a rim protector situation.
Jefferson neutral defender?

I'd like to get a big with a good vertical or at least get outta my way-ness at the rim, and good hands (both with passing and securing rebounds). (Specific to offense, although a lot of those details help on D, too).

31% from 3? No thanks. We need a sharpshooter coming off the bench.

I hope we land that Cluff kid because we need a big who can actually rebound. Would be nice to get an athletic Hassan Ward type big guy to come off the bench as well.

Or maybe Heise fills the CuJo role as a high minutes 6th man.

Feel like the staff needs to figure out how serious we are about being an elite defensive program in the Houston mold or are we OK with being just average like this year. IMO that dictates how we proceed in the portal and maybe more importantly how we spend on returning players.

The tough thing about having an elite defense, maybe 1 weak link can be compensated for. But tough to have a split roster of plus defenders and minus defenders.

Stop rewriting history. We were the #10 defense on Kenpom.

Right, but this is for next year. Jones won't be here next year. He was kind of a unicorn...not sure we'll land another 17+ppg guy that's willing to come off the bench. We need that player in the starting lineup.

That was 12 months ago...but I agree we need a guy that is willing to be physical, and go up strong.

Totally disagree. Jackson was tough guy this year, but not capable or athletic enough to hang against good programs. He was abused by Ole Miss, BYU, Houston, etc. You need to upgrade the athletic ability, but I do agree you need someone who is tough.
