He was first team all conference, all defensive team, and 2nd in the country in rebounds per game with a pretty unreal 25% rebounding rate.I remember laughing at him when we played Washington St in the tournament. I guess the coaches see something I'm not
Meteoric rise at SDSU this year. Definitely a guy I wantI remember laughing at him when we played Washington St in the tournament. I guess the coaches see something I'm not

Especially with big man evals, I absolutely trust this staff.
17 & 12, first team all conference, defensive all conference, that seems like a lot to see.I remember laughing at him when we played Washington St in the tournament. I guess the coaches see something I'm not
Agreed. I do think he looks more mobile in the video from this past season below.I imagine he's improved. Just looked oaffy and lumbering
If Jackson leaves I'd promise Rock Chatfield's minutes. He seems to have good feet and hands. Unlike Watson we just haven't seen him in meaningful minutes. I get he's abnormally young, but you'd think playing against King, Ward, Rob, Jackson, and Chatfield has made him better than if the program he was with played a different style. I'm wishcasting to some degree because presumably he'd be cheaper than a junior or senior transferThe thing you have to remember about Rock was his fr. season was supposed to be his h.s. year. If you look at his body this past season versus the last year he added a lot of good weight. Is he finally ready for 10-15 minutes next year and starting his last 2 years? I think its very possible.
He did have an offer from Kansas and Purdue which are two schools that usually know something about big men. That being said the coaching staff knows his work ethic and the level of improvement he has had up to now and probably has a pretty good handle on it.
As usual, one of the equalizers for teams with budgets like Iowa State's is minutes. I have to think Jefferson's offers were/are larger than those of any other Otz player. Maybe Momcilovic as a recruit, or Jones after last season. But he knows his skillset elevates even next season's hypothetical roster more than most any other individual players' would, so he'll have to play massive minutes and a leading role on offense. They're not looking for a cheaper replacement, or even someone else to do some of what he does. So he has certainty, despite a lighter wallet than he would have at UNC or what have youI won’t be confident until the portal closes. These guys may all plan to be back now, but I wouldn’t blame them for thinking twice if a school pulls out a fat wad of cash.
I loved the King-Ward-Rob front court, but I think we're glossing over flaws a bit. Like Jackson, some nights Ward was just an automatic 2 fouls, and thus his value as far as winning the game tanked since he wasn't going to be on the floor. He also wasn't super physical because he knew he's a good blocker. King wasn't quick footed despite being shorter than this season's bigs. His value was being a load if Ward was getting pushed around or in foul trouble. Rob was maybe the best defender, as he could stay attached to guys' hips/wasn't a liability on switches. But I definitely remember Chatfield-like plays where he tried to step out on guards and immediately fouled themI agree with letting him walk if that's the case. He's a good player and had a good year. I hope he stays, but we're not giving him 7 figures. Jackson and Chatfield are big strong kids and can bully smaller teams, but they are a little slow on the perimeter. Most of our losses have the opposing big going off from 3. They couldn't stay in front of guys when they were setting the ball screen and ended up with open looks. WV, OSU, OM were all like that.
What I'd like to see is a 5 that can switch defensively, be a rim protector and lob threat. A Hason Ward. If he can hit an open 3 all the better. Don't really care about the post up game...Jefferson can do that.
Ok I'll give you the offensive side if he's more efficient, I'm willing to be proven wrong there. Gotta be a drop off on defense though. And that is an area we need to add to, not take away from after watching that shellacking yesterday. Guys not keeping up, out of position. Maybe he's a smart player, and makes up for lack of quickness on that end? IdkHe is a replacement for Gilbert. He’s been playing pg. He creates better and shoots better this year. He doesn’t get to the rim as well, but that’s offset by the better passing.
Imo you’re thinking of what Gilbert could have been, not what he was for most of this year. Check out his comparison to KG in things like BartTorvik
He can play 1 through 3. We won’t find better return on our money because of that. Definitely don’t want to go into the season depending on a freshman to be the only other pg capable guard besides lipsey

Ha I remember him the same way. Watching his video though he seems to look way more coordinated, and skilled than I remember. Maybe that's from dropping down a level, or maybe he just improved in the offseason? Likely a little of both.I remember laughing at him when we played Washington St in the tournament. doesn't seem like an above-the-rim guy, but way better at finishing around the basket than Chatfield and Jackson—a la what Rob developed into. Rebounding stats similar to what Cluff's put up and better touch would be Chatfield+ or ++, which would be greatHa I remember him the same way. Those are some impressive game logs. I don't much about him but looks promising to me.Oscar Cluff is meeting with coaches in Ames today
UnderMy opinion, I feel we may have 4-5 scholarship spots to fill. TJ has also seemed to leave open a spot for mid-season transfer a few times. I'll set the number at 3.5

I think he’s welcome back he may even start but hoping Chatfield’s replacement has better hands than Jackson and can jump out of the gym.I want Jackson back. 6'11" posts don't grow on trees. I think part of the issue was the other center had nearly identical type of game. Not overly skilled slow-footed 6'11" bruiser.
With a cheesy mustache? Can we just get our own annoying white guy, please? It sucks having that guy on the other team all the time.
