***Official 2025 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Just saw it on Reddit, but didn't realize St Johns didn't even play anyone in the top 25 on Kenpom. Their best win was #30 Marquette.

I think the Tech - Drake game is a win win. Tech holds serve, B12 looks good. Drake wins, also good. If you guys want to root for Tech against the under-dog Iowa team, be my guest.
You are in the minority, so no, you be our guest.

That’s really dumb. It is critical for Iowa State that the Big 12 does well and wins games - big/important games - in football and basketball. Not even a loose correlation with douchy SEC “pride” in any way; it’s completely about survival as a “Power conference” school.

Another thing to add, Yormarks strategy for the conference is for us to be the premier basketball conference as he wants to split the football and basketball tv contracts. Being successful and winning national titles in basketball will help in increasing our revenue.

I was kind of wondering but didn't want to ask since some metric out there must have justified their ranking but the Big East wasn't real strong overall so it's been a while since they really saw someone legit.

Drake seems to complain a lot after foul calls.

This is a really physical game too. Hardly any fouls and the game is flying by.

Said in the Misery game that while BM is a great coach I don't care for his sideline demeanor sometimes.

He may actually be the perfect successor to Fran.

It directly benefits ISU to have the big 12 be viewed as a top conference. That kind of perception results in more media dollars and, over time, the benefit of the doubt on bids and seeding.

It does nothing good for ISU for ISU to have to share the in-state media stage when it is having success.

Go Tech.
Plus, The Big XII and consequently Iowa State literally earns $$$$ for each team that advances to the next round. I think I saw that the ACC earned $2 million for UNC advancing to the First Round from the First Four. Amount doesnt really matter, just that TT winning today will mean more money in the Big XII and ISU coffers.

It's Drake, this is their first win in the tournament since the Johnson administration, they're not really a threat IMO.

But I bet they to back to mediocrity once McCollum leaves so I don't really care, if they win that's fun, if tech wins then it looks good for the Big 12.

I guess I feel more attachment to Drake since I grew up near the drake neighborhood and I see it as good for the community. I can understand how most cyclone fans don't feel the same way. If it was UNI I'd definitely be rooting for Tech lol.
Actually, they won an NCAA Tournament Game in 2021. People might not like the format of the First Four, but they are NCAA Tournament Games and count as an NCAA Tournament appearance and a win or a loss.

It’s grotesquely dumb

25 years ago, sure, it doesn’t matter

It’s existential now for Iowa St for the Big 12 to be as strong in basketball as possible between now and 2032

We make more money if Big 12 teams win, and the conference prestige benefits

Drake winning does nothing for ISU. If anything, it’s a detriment for Drake to do well. They don’t have football, so if they are consistently good and grow their base, and/or their donors increase support, they’ll be able to approach the $5 million we plan to spend on basketball roster salary. That does nothing good for us long term

This isn’t the old days in which one could patronizingly root for the midmajor in the biggest local population center. Not only is money an equalizer, we’re fundamentally competing in the same pool

Plus the longer Drake is in the tournament the longer Iowa founders in it's coaching search lol. Just a little side benefit.

Either way I'm happy, go Des Moines Tech.

I am rooting for Drake, because I like Drake. However, it doesn't help ISU any. Moreover, Texas Tech winning is better finacially for Iowa State and the Big XII.
