*** Official #12 IOWA STATE vs #17 BYU Game(Day) Thread ***

So I missed the 1st half because of work meetings, anyone care to give a short summary? Looks like BYU was hot from 3 but so were we...Maybe another really tight game.

Hopefully in the second half BYU will not be allowed to body-check our ball-handlers to get run-outs.

BYU can't play a lot better than that. Not sure we can either.
Both teams shot about as well as they can. The game in Ames had runs predicated on runout turnovers and driving to the hoop to get the +1. I be we see more of that in the second half. I think we have the ability to go inside better than they do. We just can't give up the dribble drive from the wing that leads to the +1 or allow the kickout for the corner 3.

Was the key to unlocking our offense removing both of our primary ball handlers from the lineup?
Confirms my thought that talent hasn’t been our issue, but identity, trust and knowing who our guy is.

We’ve had 4 guys who can take over any game but who do we go to when we need one? Been a crapshoot all year til our hand has been forced.

Our offense does seem to be better when we are *slightly* (very important word) sped up.

Lipsey and KG control ball, dribble more, and become floor generals.

I notice us moving the ball and less dribbling up top. Might explain why ISU can sometimes be so poor at end of half scenarios where they slow down and hold for one shot.

Before the game:

"Hey, BYU is gonna have 49 points at the half, they're gonna shoot 47% from three, 100% from the free throw line and have more rebounds and assists than us"

"But at least Gilbert and Lipsey are healthy, right? Right?"

"Nah, Kelderman is actually gonna play some minutes"

Celebrity gif. Leslie Jones looks at us with a bored look on his face as he says, “Well, shit.”

BYU played well but not too insanely over their typical performance. That might be the best offensive half we've played of basketball in the TJ era....down 2 starters.
