IMO Culture over time will trump “buying” stop gap transfers…not saying we don’t get transfers but they have to fit otherwise you jeopardize what your trying to establish. Fill “holes” with transfers don’t “build” rosters with them and I think EIU is trying the later as a last ditch effort and it will result in a never ending money grab and will put them in worse spot.

From our discussion on CC, he’s a prime example of a top level world class talent that’s young and we can build around rather than getting that type of talent on a one year rental that breaks the bank, it’s why I’m so hopeful he returns…glaring need at upper weights, hs all his eligibility and will draw others at upper weights to backfill down the road
I think this is just plain wrong.

We have a glaring weakness at 197 next year. That is a hole we need to fill. There is lots of talk about getting a guy like Novak to fill that hole. Novak would be a step up from what we have but he’s maybe 2-4 points at NCAA. With AJ your plugging in a bare minimum of 10. More likely 15+.

CC has proven to be not good. Can he turn it around and get better? possibly. But he looks a lot like Chittum to me. Great talent, capable of beating some good guys. His career record in 2 years of college is 5-6 with some absolute clunker losses. Not the kind of results you would expect from a recruit ranked in the top 5 of his class. There is absolutely zero evidence that he is someone you can “build around”.

Also, what evidence do we have to say AJ is bad for the locker room? Is there turmoil as CSUB? Was there at OSU? If there was how much was due to Anthony?

I agree with @stuclone. Definitely has to be conditioned on good behavior and attitude, but from what I’ve seen this year he’s turned things around a bit.

He’s been here for not even 2 years and is true sophomore for folk. Has knocked off several top 10-15 guys and hasn’t even had the chance to compete in his 2nd NCAAs yet. Seems very shortsighted.

I’m a hard pass on AJ. Don’t think our AD would dap him up after the splits/double birds after winning a match.

Are you kidding? On his 3rd program already, tried fighting Glazier, birded his home crowd, teammates transferred schools due to him and his brother. He gets to do whatever he wants at CSUB.

If it would bring you Angelo too, I think I'm all for it. Perry has insight into what AJ is like in a locker room, and if Perry tells KD it's worth it then I am for it. Chittum's issue was with the middle one, not AJ or Angelo. Have to be the same messaging with AJ as Ech- you're on your last strike, don't take this opportunity for granted, and you better be a model teammate or cut bait.
Good god, if it brings Angelo I'm signing the deal with the devil no questions asked. The real place I'm 50/50 is if it's solely for AJ. Hard to judge when I don't know the available options but stephen little is one I would probably prefer over AJ even though he might have a less high ceiling, feels less risky and potentially has more years left than AJ as well.

Not to mention in his last interview he flat out said he doesn’t have good training partners at CSUB.

I’m sure that’s great for the locker room.

I think the fault there is just as much on the program itself then AJ.

This portal is going to be crazy I think. I am willing to wait until after NCAA and see how the roster limits affects this team and who enter the portal off of this this and others.

Hope the staff sits down with the wrestlers and lays out a plan for them for next year.

I saw his last dual meet and Big 12s. No need to wait for NCAAs to evaluate.
