I agree. It reminds me of the campus town renovations. Sure, it’s great that all this stuff came in, but you completely destroyed what made my memories of the place from when I was in school.

Now with this, maybe the college kids and young adults will create memories with this new Cytown, but it won’t be the same as I remember growing up going to games and tailgating in those lots. I worry that having tailgating pushed further and further out and only available when the weather is dry is going to ruin the entire atmosphere in the name of advancement.

Totally agree. That’s we what are known for at Iowa State. Huge open lots for tailgating.

It’s time to be known for what happens INSIDE the stadium. Coming from someone who knows the value of football parking better than most. Additionally, our tailgate spot has been relocated numerous times throughout the years. Yet, we still have one helluva party 6-7 Saturday’s a year.

Agreed. The target market is not concerned how far away the bars are from the hotel. The target market are the same people that pull into the spot with their name painted on the ground 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

Gotta imagine there will be catered tailgating at the hotel with golf cart shuttles to the stadium prior to kickoff.
I'd apply to be golf cart driver.

In my opinion, the fix for that is paving the lots around S. 16th. If those are donor lots, yeah it is a further walk, but that is pretty good tailgating with the bridge there.

I’m not the biggest fan of the grain bin amphitheater, but the rest is going to be top notch. This thing is going to be freaking awesome. For sure it is going to be super crowded on fb gameday. Mbb, it’s gonna be unreal.

We were known for that because our team was ******* terrible. How about we become known as a good football program with exceptional tailgating outside the stadium as well.

Even after this development there is still only a handful of places in the country with a better tailgating setup, if that.

As much as I dont like Jamie parting me with money his job is to maximize our resources. Getting every single donor a paved spot isn't a good way to maximize resources. Setting the bar at $500 or whatever to get a paved spot is a good perk.

As I understand no current parking will be lost with Cytown. Hard to believe but this was the talking point I heard at one point. Can anyone confirm?

Maybe compared to what has been available with the torn up lots over the past seasons? But it looks like all of section B will be buildings going forward. Not sure how much of section A will be left. If they say no parking will be lost, it’s gotta be a numbers game where paved spots are replaced across the street with grass spots.

Agreed that long term there’s gotta be more pavement to the East of University Ave. That would go a long ways to make up for the losses for football. But that long walk to Hilton is going to be even longer now. Hopefully the buildings block some of that arctic wind that seems to blow into your face both ways.

The hotel for game weekends will also make you book both Friday and Saturday at that $400+ per night rate. That’s how it works in Iowa City most of the hotels.

And $400 a night is generous for a football game.

You understand the RV lot was the first phase of this. Moving the RVS out of the lots they were in opened a HUGE number of regular parking spots. By moving the RVS and adding parking around Hilton their was actually an increase in the number of paved spots from before this started.

People seem to forget how many spots were gained by moving the RVs

MBB is not really a problem. They can fit everyone going to Hilton into those lots. And if not, they can spill over into the JT lots. I’ve said this before, but imagine heading to a 1pm game in Hilton at 11. Park in D4 and walk toward Hilton. Stop in a bar/restaurant and have a few beers and some food while watching the end of the 11am games, then walk into Hilton at 12:45. Sounds pretty freaking good to me.

I maybe in the minority but I just watched the video and not only did it not get me excited. It actually made me disappointed. I think this place is better for
Opposing fan and not for us. Clone fans love tailgating at their cars. This place is a downgrade for that. The amphitheater is cool. However I don’t know why we need a bunch of office space and a hospital type place in between Hilton and Jack Trice
By creating the new RV lot, they barely reduced the amount of tailgating close to Jack Trice.
