Cytown Update

Love the ambitious plan. We are uniquely positioned to do something like this, given the space between Hilton and Jack Trice. If it works, Pollard is a genius.

The amount of commercial space is seems like a risk given the vast amount that is already vacant in Ames.

My only disappointment with the whole thing is the name… CyTown. I mean, we couldn’t come up with something better than that? It’s bad enough that our only official rivalry trophy is called the Cy-Hawk. Now we have CyTown. Lacks creativity.

Because Iowa Cyty was never going to fly.

I maybe in the minority but I just watched the video and not only did it not get me excited. It actually made me disappointed. I think this place is better for
Opposing fan and not for us. Clone fans love tailgating at their cars. This place is a downgrade for that. The amphitheater is cool. However I don’t know why we need a bunch of office space and a hospital type place in between Hilton and Jack Trice
This take is about as awful as could possibly be.

Since you are so mad about it and it "lacks creativity," please inform us of your better name.

Ohh so let’s just get rid of all parking lots and put up a bunch of other businesses to generate money.
You sound like all of the morons in the Facebook comment section to the renderings video.

We will have a net increase in parking spaces after the entire project is complete. This has already been covered. Do you ever do any insight into forming your opinions?

Not mad at all. While I’m not the one paying consultants but, with thinking about it for all of 3 minutes, something like the Storm Center or a generic Victory Village would be better than CyTown.
It's too bad Cyclone Alley is already being used. Because who doesn't like standing around, drinking beer in an alley??

Not much else to say other than what has already been said. This will be an amazing project if it all gets built or even close to what is proposed. Love the amenity additions with the themed playground, football field, and amphitheater. The addition of a hotel to the ISC has been a longtime desire of the university as well.

It’s going to be nice.

I agree. It reminds me of the campus town renovations. Sure, it’s great that all this stuff came in, but you completely destroyed what made my memories of the place from when I was in school.

Now with this, maybe the college kids and young adults will create memories with this new Cytown, but it won’t be the same as I remember growing up going to games and tailgating in those lots. I worry that having tailgating pushed further and further out and only available when the weather is dry is going to ruin the entire atmosphere in the name of advancement.
The memories from when we were one of the worst programs in the country?

It's been addressed ad nauseam - they actually ADDED spots with all the reconfiguration, largely facilitated by the relocation of the RV lot
Exactly. Why are the most opinionated often the least informed? They move RVs to the new lot, changed the parking configuration to add spots and then added more spots around Hilton and the Iowa State Center.
