I wonder how much a room at The Scarlet goes for on GameDay. That probably answers our question

Cheapest rate the weekend of the Nebraska v Southern Cal game is $450.

Also note that The Scarlet is over a mile from Memorial Stadium.

At one point I think the Jordan Creek parkway Marriott was pretty common as well, don't know if it still is
I know that was Nebraska's spot whenever they visited. Someone I went to high school lived on Ashworth not far from there whose parents are big Nebraska donors. This was before they developed that area so they had a massive back yard, and the Huskers would do their Friday walk throughs in their back yard.

I know the Embassy Suites downtown has been used as well for visiting football teams.

but hear me out, how bad ass would that spirit walk be through cytown to get to the stadium? Based off renderings it appears that the hotel is on one end and the stadium is on the other. Team stays at that hotel, walks through throngs of fans to get to the stadium
if the team stayed there they would take up at least 50 rooms in a 200 room hotel

The updated plan looks like a big improvement on the first plan (which was also a great plan). Adding the playgrounds and turf for kids was a very good move.

I took all my girls to the women's game against TCU a few weeks ago. As we were walking by the construction zone, one of my daughter's asked me if they were building the biggest playground ever. I told her yes, knowing it was a lie. Now it's actually true. Kids are going to love this. That's how you create new fans and kids that want to go to ISU and go to games. They walk to the game and along the way they get to stop and play in a bird house and then get something to fun to eat or drink on the way. Then after the game, they want to buy a shirt and a Cy stuffed animal. I'm more excited than ever about ISU and for all generations to get involved in it. My kids loved their first women's game and want to go back soon.

Whether it's CyTown, Reiman Gardens, the Memorial Union, all the bike trails, the amazing landscaping or a truly beautiful campus that you appreciate, Iowa State is on the move for everyone. Just think, this was an empty parking lot and now it will be filled with trees and new amenities. That's huge for the university!

I thought the point of the hotel was to get away from campus and all the distractions associated with it?

FB teams stay in WDM, not sure about bball.
Last year, the K-State BB team stayed at the Hyatt Place Jordan Creek, West Des Moines. My wife and I had got back from a vacation to Jamaica and we had to miss the 'spy gate' game but we were tracking it on social media. They threw away some of their scouting sheets for the next game in the public trash can and I grabbed one out to take a look at it. I thought if any of them see me they are going to freak out that the spies followed them. My wife and I were wearing our Iowa State garb and we got a couple of looks from them. We did not see Tang but there were assistant coaches and players. They had Chick-Fil-A delivered to the lobby for breakfast. They invited us to take whatever we wanted when they left.

What would you suggest? They have been upgrading rooms. Not sure how many are new and how many are old.

Gamedays won't affect Gateway. It's events
The gateway is fine. But its just that. Having done enough hotels, Ive come to the realization that a hotel has to be nicer and more updated (newer) than the guests home to resonate and be desirable. And as I recall some of the common areas at gateway were getting dated. Maybe even some cracked tiles in the pool area. Again its fine, but it takes a lot to be "new".

I maybe in the minority but I just watched the video and not only did it not get me excited. It actually made me disappointed. I think this place is better for
Opposing fan and not for us. Clone fans love tailgating at their cars. This place is a downgrade for that. The amphitheater is cool. However I don’t know why we need a bunch of office space and a hospital type place in between Hilton and Jack Trice

Because we need to maximize revenue in today's age of college athletics. This isn't that hard to understand.

Dear God, yes, I pray you’re in the minority.

A downgrade from a parking lot that’s used 5 times a year… goodness.

I agree. It reminds me of the campus town renovations. Sure, it’s great that all this stuff came in, but you completely destroyed what made my memories of the place from when I was in school.

Now with this, maybe the college kids and young adults will create memories with this new Cytown, but it won’t be the same as I remember growing up going to games and tailgating in those lots. I worry that having tailgating pushed further and further out and only available when the weather is dry is going to ruin the entire atmosphere in the name of advancement.
