What would you suggest? They have been upgrading rooms. Not sure how many are new and how many are old.

Gamedays won't affect Gateway. It's events

I talked with a manager when we stayed at the Gateway a few weeks back and he said that a full remodel of the lobby and conference center was upcoming in the next couple of years.

You are not the target market. Plenty of people will pay that price

Agreed. The target market is not concerned how far away the bars are from the hotel. The target market are the same people that pull into the spot with their name painted on the ground 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

Gotta imagine there will be catered tailgating at the hotel with golf cart shuttles to the stadium prior to kickoff.

Cy's Locker Room has to be moved to CyTown too, right?

I’d guess a second location there for walk up traffic. But if you’re parking to the east, it’ll be a lot easier to get to the other locations around town. So I’d hope the Duff location will stay.

Guessing Cy's locker room does not own the building they are in... thus they will have to stay there until their lease comes up for renewal. After that? Who knows. With the Rally House across the street, Cy's just might move.

I’d be fine with a move. Just they need more than Cytown for gameday purchases. That’s way too hard to get to unless you’re tailgating there. Maybe a Somerset or an East 13th location would be good instead of Duff to get away from the crazy traffic?

Its why I did not mention football only bb, someone posted a video earlier about Utah making the trip to Ames and they stayed at the Gateway. Not sure the Gateway would be big enough to house a football team, coaches and staff.

Our football team stays at the Gateway during fall camp and the Friday night before games. My guess is that they'll probably stick with that because of the location.

but hear me out, how bad ass would that spirit walk be through cytown to get to the stadium? Based off renderings it appears that the hotel is on one end and the stadium is on the other. Team stays at that hotel, walks through throngs of fans to get to the stadium

For sure....and maybe they will. It would probably depend on the meeting rooms/catering options available. And what the coach would want.

Would look awesome, but I doubt they want the distractions of that hotel and quadruple the length of the spirit walk.

Marching band going through it will looked awesome too.

Not to mention I assume it'd be much more expensive.

I doubt it. I don't think that hotel is going to be wildly more expensive to the general public and the team probably gets special rates.

Don't most hotels on gamedays charge near the maximum per night allowed by law?

I had no idea there is a maximum allowed per night. Huh. News to me.

But I have to imagine it will immediately be the most expensive place to stay on game weekends and it wouldn't surprise me if it's by a decent margin. Brand new heavily themed hotel that literally overlooks Hilton/JTS/CyTown is for sure going to be a hotter ticket than old and worn-down Gateway that's on the other side of 30. Unless, again, there's a legal cap they can't go over, then that will artificially keep them closer.

I could definitely be wrong, but I used to think they posted it on doors. Maybe it's not a real thing.

There will be a newness factor, but I don't think it's going to be an $800 a night kind of thing for a basic room.

The only cap is the one they post. I'm not sure what keeps a hotel from posting a ridiculous cap (like $10k or something).

From the Iowa code:

137C.23 Posting room rates. A complete list of rooms by number together with the number of the floor and the rate per day per person for each room shall be kept continuously and conspicuously posted on the wall near the office in the lobby of a hotel in such a way as to be accessible to the public without request to the management. The rate per day per person for each room shall also be posted in the same manner in each room. No amount greater than the one posted shall be charged.

I wonder how much a room at The Scarlet goes for on GameDay. That probably answers our question
