SIAP but is it very obvious that opposing teams for lots of sports will want to stay at "The Cardinal" hotel?

Seems like a dream for opposing teams actually.
I would assume they wouldn't with the higher prices and amount of activity before/on gameday. They would probably need about half of the hotel too.

Wonder if the hotel will have a restaurant/bar as well? And if that is in addition to the Johnnys that will now be in Scheman?
That hotel bar would get blasted before and after games in Hilton.

I feel like this is a good time to link The Scarlet's website again. With this hotel directly referenced in the video, and it being built by Goldenrod, it would be a pretty safe bet to assume that The Cardinal will appear similar to this hotel, but with ISU touches instead of UNL designs.

The Scarlet | Food + Drink

Will the restaurant be named Lancelot & Elaine's? Will the rooftop bar be named Cy's Roost II? :jimlad:

I love the stuff for kids, especially the turf field. When the College Football Hall of Fame was in South Bend, they had a field outside there. The carpet wasn’t great but my kids spent hours there. Trying to kick field goals, playing pick up flag games, running pass routes, etc. Burn off some energy before and after going in the building.

If I won the lottery, I would freaking live in Cytown. Walk to concerts and games. Go down slides. Never worry about getting parking or how long it takes to leave. Hope they use the amphitheater for university music and theater productions.
Already anticipating some high roller donor complaining about not being able to get their car out of their condo/suite parking on gameday and the AD having to scramble to accomodate their comings and goings during the height of gameday traffic.

Looks awesome and can't wait to see and experience the finished product! I also wonder what the impact to being able to set up our tents and tailgates in the paved lots surrounding CyTown will be once up and running?

I don't think we'd let them. There are too many fans that would want to stay there.

This honestly forces the Gateway to update and do something more competitive. Their near monopoly as a walkable stay to JTS has let them get away with murder in how they price themselves, IMO.

The Gateway did recently remodel their rooms. I wouldn’t necessarily call it outdated anymore. But it is super expensive on game weekends. Most games my parents are paying $500 a night.

For football, visiting teams will usually stay in the Des Moines area. Basketball wise, it depends on the team. Some will stay in the Des Moines Area and some will stay in Ames.

We stayed there with friends on a game weekend a few years ago and we understood it was expensive. But a round of double drinks at the bar was $120 with tip and the same drinks were $24 at Welch while we were waiting for check in. Nice bar but I think that experience is different than most places in Ames.

Would the demand be that high outside of game days? Ames isn't much of a tourist destination.
Overall, probably not. But if it was just one or two I think they'd do alright. Would it pay the mortgage? I doubt it. But I think they'd make money off alumni like me who'd want to go back for a weekend in the summer on top of gamedays.

If the bar does not serve Ames Lager, that will be a drastic oversight. Imagine the amount of beer West-O would sell in a weekend? Not to mention, opposing fans may also partake

Looking at you @brentblum

They know their audience for game weekends. Old people with money to spend. My parents are happy to pay for the convenience. But my Dad about died when he only paid $1400 total for 5 nights at the team hotel in Orlando for the bowl game.

The Cardinal will easily stay full adjacent to campus the way it will be. It will be the #1 choice of prospective students and their families on any recruiting visit during the week from November to May.
