I agree most of crypto will not be viable. Stable coins will be interesting to follow and CBDCs will be terrifying. Bitcoin is a different story though. It's like the internet vs intranet debates in the 90's.

I don’t disagree with you but I still don’t see bitcoin as being anything than a store of value or investment.

This thread was started 7 years ago and there still isn’t real adoption of bitcoin at all other than an investment vehicle.

It takes time for open source protcols to grow but it seems to be right on track. Gradually then suddenly...
Just with inflation, the value of the $ is 75% higher now than in 2002. The year 10 internet dollar value is not $500M, but $875M. Then the graph assumes NO GROWTH in the internet investment since 2002.

And the assumption that the 43% annual growth(a complete BS assumption) will accelerate just proves the BS assumed in this prognostication.

Rather than find something that gets you
:eggplant:, find facts and bring arguments, not speculation.

In my opinion, cryptocurrency only has value because of its scarcity. If it were ever to become a regular form of payment, the volume would have to increase. The fact that it’s all made up/whatever people want it to be, would make it fairly easy for anyone to come in and create the volume they wanted. They would simply have to figure out how to make the transactions relatively easy and get buy-in from corporate partners.

Truthfully, the most logical source of that type of innovation would come from someone like Visa or American Express. They probably would have the most to lose if we ever went away from regular currency.

So I see two potential outcomes. Either the value of these cryptocurrencies stays high until somebody makes it make sense to bring it mainstream…and then it plummets. Or it becomes evident that it will never become mainstream…and it plummets.

The idea that it will remain scarce, highly valuable, and useful makes no sense. You can’t take something like currency and make it so people don’t have access to it. They will literally create their own rather than pay enormous amounts of money to buy currency…to then spend said currency.

I think the term “cryptocurrency” is a misnomer. The vast majority of crypto companies are tech startups that implement cryptography. There doesn’t seem to be much interest from these companies in upending fiat or something idiotic like that.

There’s still debate about the role Bitcoin will play in this world. I don’t believe it’ll ever act as currency. It’s a scarcity/store of value play. And it’s one of a handful of cryptos that will survive the crypto craze.

Lol

Let me sink my life savings and my kids’ college fund into a totally unregulated financial instrument thats already been used by bad actors to con rubes out of their money (by pumping up a crypto coin then dumping it all for a profit, leaving everybody else with near worthless junk … and there’s no regulations against it!).

I’ve always thought the idea of scarcity in crypto is pretty interesting, but the reality is most coins don’t really get traction unless there’s constant activity or hype around them. Whenever a new token launches, especially on these smaller exchanges, it feels like everything hinges on getting volume up early, otherwise nobody even notices it exists. It’s kind of wild how much those trending lists and chart appearances matter for people actually wanting to buy in or trade. A while back, I came across some projects that use automated tools to help tokens get noticed, like volume bots specifically for PumpSwap. I read about one of these at this link for PumpSwap volume generation, https://solana-volume.com/pumpswap, which lays out the details for how that all works under Solana. If you’re messing with new coins, worth a look for ideas.
