Front half of UH conf schedule is really really poor, then gets a lot tougher the back half. Ours is probably a bit easier the back half although we still have at Houston late Feb.
Yeah, I hadn't looked into schedules that much but assumed that was the case from Kenpom. That shows us being projected to win the conference.

Saw some clips from Park City Utah what a cluster over Christmas break.
My sister-in-law lives in PC and said this was a unique situation. I guess the ski patrol employees are on strike against the company that runs most of the ski patrols in the city, and this has lead to a lot of the trails being closed (and the same number of people still using the remaining lifts and trails).

=================

Houston so far this year is proof that you don't need to beat anyone good to have good rankings in the various metrics, just blow the doors off all the mid-to-bad teams you play. Not saying they aren't good, they look really good lately, just an observation.

Interesting the Torvik profile of Kansas is similar to ISU's last year with the 49th ranked Off and 4th ranked defense.

Metric wise we will be playing ourselves from last year.

Bill's recent teams have been more defense oriented teams. Don't know if this is on purpose or compensation based on their roster.

I'm guessing Self expected a lot more scoring from the transfers, especially Storr. The lack of production, along with having a lineup that includes Adams and Harris, kind of forces Self to a more defensive strategy.

Iowa State's net efficiency rating at KP is +32.22

Since the 21-22 season only one team has finished the year with higher. That was last year's UConn team (+36.43)

What's insane is that there are 3 teams with higher efficiencies than us this year! Auburn at 37.00 is mind boggling.

That jumped almost a full point? I think they were 31.3ish prior to the game.

That game was Iowa State's worst raw offensive efficiency of the season at 103, but Kansas's defense is good enough that the adjusted offensive efficiency was bumped up to 119, right in line with where we've been most of the season. The adjusted defensive rating was Iowa State's 4th best of the season.

While watching the game, I would've guessed that Iowa State had a bad defensive rebounding percentage, but it was actually solid and the best of Big 12 play so far. There were just those one or two frustrating possessions with Adams keeping plays alive.

I think at times we could get a little stagnant with Milan not out there… it didn’t matter tonight but having more than one threat from deep really opens up the driving lanes for KG and Lipsey as well keeps the defense from doubling down on the bigs when there are low post touches. Even when Milan is not making it, the opposing teams know how dangerous he is and have to guard him around the perimeter.

I definitely agree. Milan has gravity and demands defensive attention that opens things up for others. But have to give credit to KU's defense, too. Iowa State was 14/46 from two tonight, by far ISU's worst two-point percentage of the season (and the first game of the season below 50% from two). However, tonight was KU's 7th straight game holding the opponent to 50% or worse from two. They've been a really great defense lately, primarily by giving up low field goal percentages while still not fouling. They gave up a low field goal percentage tonight, but our guys got to the line way more than KU's been giving up lately.

Storr's offensive regression is bizzare. He was a stud at Wisconsin last year. Maybe he just doesn't fit with how Kansas wants to play? He only played 10 minutes tonight.

We keep seeing these highly coveted transfers go to big time programs, and basically do nothing. Meanwhile, we pick up whatever scraps we can find from the mid-majors and turn them into all conference guys. Our staff's evaluation of transfers is second to none.

I might be a bit biased here, but I think we performed better* than the metrics show. We missed several very high percentage shots (I can think of 4 off top of my head bunnies, and 1 dunk). Give us even half of those misses and the complexion of the game becomes even more lopsided, along with the O performance metrics.

*better but certainly agree Milan's absence hurts

Stohr could score in spurts but then would just kind of flake out at times.

I didn't think he looked like he belonged on the court much at all tonight.

An island of misfit toys.

Doing what TJ is doing with pieces off the proverbial scrap heap... I don't have words for it.

Totally agree. it’s really quite baffling to me.

Reporter asked Self about TJs rebuild and he commented on the talent evaluation and getting pieces that fit (making a joke about how much NIL money we have which I think was good natured joke and actually a compliment).

I have to wonder if this money is making these kids less hungry and/or if it creates some kind of rifts in the locker room.

Regardless, it’s clearly not working for a lot of teams. Kansas probably being the most glaring example right now.

Dickinson, Storr, Mayo, etc were all thought to be the best of the best in the transfer portal at the time.

Ours were nowhere on the national radar but completely outclassed KU tonight.

The biggest question mark entering this season was the front court. They have by far exceeded expectations. And they are getting much better defensively as the season is progressing

It’s amazing how TJ and his staff are able to identify these players in the portal and hits on nearly every single one.
