Testifying
I wonder if Ankeny never had a decent old school downtown area because of its proximity to Des Moines? Other towns near Des Moines have a main street or square like Polk City, Grimes etc. Or is it was never large enough for that and skipped that and by the time there was a large enough population it went straight to car centric urban design. But yeah it's the poster child of soulless urban sprawl and horrible urban design. Not to pile on lol.
Good for them for Prairie Trail I guess, trying to emulate an urban environment.
You need to get to Leaning Tower sometime.

Ankeny's current population is approaching 80,000. Sure wish they had decided back in the 1850's to locate the ISU campus there instead of Story County.
I have no hate for Ankeny, it’s a fine suburb. But with all due respect, this is one of the worst posts I’ve ever seen on CF.

I have heard it was between Ames and Marshalltown for the location of ISU. Marshalltown got the Veterans Home instead....

I mean this completely honestly, can you name some. There have been times it would have been really helpful to eat in Ankeny and we couldn't come up with anywhere we wanted to try.

Get away from Delaware. As someone suggested Uptown Area is nice and growing a bit. Firetrucker is a cool Brewery, some may say their beers are not great, but its location is awesome and they sometimes have food trucks, my wife doesn't love Craft Beer, but Firetrucker has some ginger beers like Cat Dragon and Copper Cat that she enjoys. Same with Uptown Garage, more of a tap room, but they have some local beers as well. Both can have some food trucks around. The coffee shop and other retail are nice too. Leaning Tower is great.

Main Street Cafe is amazing on the South side by the South Hy-Vee. Some more non chain options in Prairie Trail as well like Grimaldi's, Flavory Bistro, Magee's, 30 Hop, a great brunch spot the Breakfast Club.

I'd say I try to avoid Delaware as much as possible, there are some fast food type places popping up more on 36th Street as well which living on the NE side I don't have to go far.

Like I said I'm all for the McFarland Clinic, I just think it's not in an ideal location. That said it sounds like this whole development wouldn't have happened without them so it is what it is. I'm still optimistic about the whole thing. Excited to see more renderings after this BoR meeting.
Dunno seems like a precovid idea to me

Yes, but in accordance with the original depiction of Cytown the clinic isn't there, but not depicted in the billboard at the corner of University and Jack Trice way.
So there is a graphical billboard at the corner of University and S 4th, that depicts what they hope to build, if you look closely the clinic is not where they intend to build it now, as it has a Jack Trice Way street address. Hope this helps.

I appreciate your response. Both Main Street Cafe and Breakfast Club are solid, I probably don't think about them because I go to their locations downtown and in West Des Moines. We should try Flavory Bistro sometime, that looks like our best bet. While helpful to others, breweries/tap rooms/pubs and pizza places aren't our thing. Thanks again for the response.

1825 Jack Trice Way would be just east of Alumni Lane, so that address is the south west corner of the old B6 lot which is exactly where the clinic has been shown in all the plans.

If you like Italian Portafinos is a solid local restaurant. I love pho and Pho 88 is great for that. If you like sushi there is Wasabi in prairie trail, although I guess it is technically a local chain. You can't go more than five blocks in the metro without seeing a local tex-mex place and Ankeny is pretty much the same. Red Chillez is an Indian restaurant that just opened up that I've heard really good things about but haven't tried yet. I haven't been to Filet Steakhouse yet either, but my neighbors really like it. I know you said pizza places aren't your thing but Nonnas Pizza is my favorite pizza in the metro.

Johnson, Kossuth, Marshall and Polk Counties all put in bids to host the state land-grant college. Ames already had a model farm created in 1858, giving Story county the leg up when the state accepted the terms of the Morrill Act in 1862.

Thanks for the response. Red Chillez looks interesting and worth a try. Persis Biryani is our go to Indian place, but it'd be nice to find one we like on the way to Ames. Do you mean Pho 85? (I only ask because there is Pho 888 in Des Moines.)

Yes, I meant 85. It's actually right next door to the Indian restaurant.
