I personally thought the turning point in the game was when we sat Milan and rolled with Heise. Game switched immediately. I love Milan to death, but he was getting absolutely torched on both closeouts and on ball defending. Heise comes in late and they just stop scoring. Completely.

This team has some grit to them. Some teams fold when their back is against the wall, not this team.

Auburn game was a complete collapse, but might be a pivotal piece to our success this year.

Obviously a win there would have been great but with as often as big first half leads go away this kind of description is becoming more and more hyperbolic.

I'd call ISU's late possessions in that game a bigger deal/learning situation than a really good team tightening up and coming back in 20 game minutes.

A lot of Hassel comments here so...he looks like Caitlyn Clark. I'd love to see him clean shaven with a long ,straight, black wig with a side by side of Clark.

Let’s not get crazy here…..Hassel is much, much prettier. Probably because he doesn’t have a forehead like a drive in movie theater screen.

My favorite thing about this whole thing is Iowa fans realizing they are a womens basketball school now. When I grew up in the 80's they were a football and mens basketball school.

I love the way we're using Heise. He's that "break glass in case of emergency" defender we can bring in while closing out a game to completely wreck the opponent's gameplan when the game is on the line.

I said it in another post. You know TJs teams have the ability to clamp down defensively. Now he has a team here with the offensive ability to erase a deficit, and it showed last night.

I was at the game and I kept saying "He can't shoot" when they were giving it to him at the end of the shot clock in the first half. Oops. I forgot to factor in that dude's heart. And big brass ones. What a phenomenal Cyclone he continues to be.

They really struggled with clamping Iowa down; I have to tip my hat. I envisioned a game in which Harding was getting trapped by a pair of 6'4 guards and turning it over.

This is the winner, been waiting for someone else to note it.

Iowa was totally gassed, no legs, and thus couldnt hit shots down the stretch. Thats a combination of:

1. Iowa actually trying to play defense for once, which wore them out. They wont try that again LOL.
2. ISU having high quality depth pieces to keep the starters fresh. Gilbert, Tinsley, Jones, Jefferson were strong the last 10 minutes, because Heise (25min), Milan (20 min) and Chatfield (10min) are as good or better than Iowa's starters.

Better overall team, period. That will be as good a game as Iowa plays this year.

COVID year?

Not accurate. It was a 7 minute stretch to start the 2nd half, after which the game was even to the end. Most teams would've collapsed. This Cyclone team didn't.

After yesterday's great day of staying home from work, beating a cold, afternoon fun times, and beating Iowa, after testing negative for days, I've tested positive for COVID and will miss my neighbors awesome Christmas party. On top of that, I'm home with a pair of sick 5 year olds I suspect will test positive, and one of them puked all over my new Subaru (thank you for all weather floor mats and synthetic leather).

Iowa will have to be a game or two north of .500 in league play to get a bid. Their non con schedule is really really bad and they really won't have a quality non con win.

That was a huge huge game for Iowa last night, they really needed that for their tourney resume.

Yes and no. IMO it was more about scheme than ability. If we come out and just play them man to man and not overplay passing lanes or traps we probably don't trail the way we did. We were inviting them to shoot wide open 3's and the hit them at a stupid good clip early. It was awesome to see us adjust and clamp them down.

Yeah I thought we were toast because the in the beginning of the second half they were calling so many ticky tack fouls on us but letting Iowa hand check and grab us. So getting them into the bonus early was like a free 2 points every time they fouled.

I'll have you know, that several hok fans I am acquainted with think we got away with murder, and that our players are a bunch of thugs.

It warms the cockles of my heart.

If his play wasnt enough on its own, he should go into the HOF for his ISU support and hatred of Iowa alone

I’m glad to see TJ make that adjustment, because in years past he wouldn’t have. He’d still try to force the trapping double teams, and these high volume 3-point shooting teams would beat us by 20.

And the 18 point lead was for a very short time.

Auburn cut that to 10 or so quickly and it was clear they were starting to get settled in before ISU had a burst just before half.
