I decided I could tolerate Freeman with the sheepish look he had when he banked in a free throw.

Seemed like they couldn’t hit shots late cause they had no legs for the threes. Fran did not seem to leave subs in very long. Either not much depth or depth he doesn’t trust.
This is the winner, been waiting for someone else to note it.

Iowa was totally gassed, no legs, and thus couldnt hit shots down the stretch. Thats a combination of:

1. Iowa actually trying to play defense for once, which wore them out. They wont try that again LOL.
2. ISU having high quality depth pieces to keep the starters fresh. Gilbert, Tinsley, Jones, Jefferson were strong the last 10 minutes, because Heise (25min), Milan (20 min) and Chatfield (10min) are as good or better than Iowa's starters.

Better overall team, period. That will be as good a game as Iowa plays this year.

Play me a song Curtis Jones, Curtis Jones

I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro

People said you was useless, them people all are fools

Cause Curtis Jones was the finest picker to ever play the blues
Glad I'm not the only one who hears this tune in my head whenever he's on the floor. :prohm:

Also- shout out to Lipsey. Some on this board have been hard on him when he's struggling offensively. Whether he's getting buckets or not, he is always hustling his @ss off on defense. For that he has my undying allegiance.

This team has some grit to them. Some teams fold when their back is against the wall, not this team.

Auburn game was a complete collapse, but might be a pivotal piece to our success this year.

Always fun to see EIU fans leaving the game early!
A lot of Hassel comments here so...he looks like Caitlyn Clark. I'd love to see him clean shaven with a long ,straight, black wig with a side by side of Clark.

the 22 is SO small and barely noticeable in person unless you're looking for it.

seeing it, it's weird to say, but they kinda did Caitlin dirty on that. I mean comeon

I think that was kind of the point. IMO the size is subtle and perfect. Anything larger would be kind of cheesy and obnoxious.

I would love to see how Tinsley would fit in with this group...he is just too old to run with these kids! LOL...just teasing!

The real reason Iowa was exhausted was from all of their in game celebrations. How do you expect them to keep the same energy level when you gotta celebrate that much.

I have zero issues with having fun and enjoying the moment when out on the floor...however, I felt that Iowa players were almost too celebratory and...a bit cocky most of the game. It was almost like they surprised even themselves when they jumped out to a big lead. Again, be who you are...but the Iowa players (and bench) seemed to celebrate any "success" like it was the greatest moment of their lives!

Yeah I thought we were toast because the in the beginning of the second half they were calling so many ticky tack fouls on us but letting Iowa hand check and grab us. So getting them into the bonus early was like a free 2 points every time they fouled.

My favorite foul of the second half was the terrible entry pass to Freeman that was overthrown. Freeman and his tired legs fell over and they called a foul on Heise. Runner up was the foul they called on Jones when he cut off the baseline and we had the guy trapped and the ref totally blew and anticipation foul. There was literally no contact.

Finally got to watch this morning.

1. That was Iowa's ultra-focused, hot shooting, all out effort and it wasn't good enough to beat us on their own court, on an off night for us.
2. We have four certified stars in Gilbert, Lipsey, Jones and Jefferson, and seven that are basically interchangeable starter-level guys.
3. Lipsey was absolutely everywhere. I didn't count how many possessions he gained or saved with his hustle, but it was A LOT.
4. Guys never looked the least bit rattled.
5. I'm guessing that this will be a low Q1 or high Q2 by the end of the year, making 4 potential Q1 games (N-Auburn, N-Dayton, H-Marquette, A-Iowa) in the first 9. MUCH better shape from the non-con than we were last year.
Don't forget Milan- He is a stud too!! Just didn't shoot it well tonight.

That loose ball he got at around the 3 minute mark showed what he brings. He had absolutely no business getting to that ball.

The refs really let EIU get away with a lot of grabbing on our drives to the basket without a foul. Jones should have had a couple free throws after making the basket. Also noticed they missed two early push in the back during rebounds on Freeman. The guy is smart, and does it early when everyone is looking at the rim, he just two handed someone in the back a couple of times and was standing there for the rebound.

I love the recent narrative on EIU MBB attendance woes that all their fans all the way over in Des Moines can't make it to a mid-week game.

(i) Why does WBB sell out?
(ii) EIU is a distant #3 at best in most-popular NCAABB team in the Des Moines metro.
(iii) If your fans can't make it to a home game against the #3 ranked team and in-state rival, I guess they're not very big fans.

Typical EIU superiority complex thinking they are the most popular team no matter where you are in the state. Des Moines has its own hometown team and is 30 miles from ISU campus, there's not a critical mass of Hawk fans chomping at the bit for a little Carver Magic.
