Everyone deals with injuries in some part. The deck fell on the defense against UCF, we never really recovered.
Still should have covered. I think it was 8.5. Didn't have money on it but was tempted
I was hoping that the departure of Texas and OU would improve our average number of wins by 1-2 which would turn us into something like an 8-9 win team. That hope was shattered, I think we're really a 7 win team that drew an easy schedule and had a couple of lucky bounces.
I was really hoping we'd be an 8-9 win team because that kind of team is regularly in contention. I just don't think we've turned that corner. Look at the other P4 championship games. Ours was the only one not decided by a score. The only blowout. We're a good team that occasionally has a great season if the dominoes fall correctly.
For the record, a coach at ISU that can put together a 7 win program consistently is pretty damn good by historical standards. The sky isn't falling and our program is as good as its ever been. But we still don't have the talent or consistency to be a player in the national scene and anyone who expected that was being unrealistic.

Yes, but In some ways, considering this team rarely put together 4 complete quarters its kind of incredible we won 10 games. Like, we could have easily won Tech. But we also had 3-4 we could have very easily lost with the mental mistakes or semi-lack luster play at times.
We are a good team but also, a highly inconsistent one. Or, consistently inconsistent? Where one of the offense, defense or slightly less rarely, ST, just takes a half to really get going. Which for as much as the leadership gets talked about... is a little surprising. Obviously, injuries play a role in that.
We won 10 games which is incredible. And an accomplishment that is deserved to be celebrated.
But I will die on the hill that ever since the West Virginia game... the team just wasn't right. We won games, but it just felt different, we seemed to be like a car needing a transmission change. Maybe the injuries finally took their toll. IDK.
Kids deserve credit for the season along with the coaches.
How many teams put together 4 good quarters repeatedly? I'd argue outside of t10, not many. That's the joy and insanity of college sports. College kids are inconsistent.
Objectively I can be pissed at the ******** that was yesterday's game but also proud of ISUs first 10 win season and the growth of some of the young players forced into playing because of injuries.

Without the two minute warning we would have lost to Iowa and UCF. Without a bad snap, Cincinnati was getting the ball back down by 1 score with 2 minutes left.
They did enough to win 10 games, you can’t take that away from them. But at the same time you can admit they were pretty fortunate to do so. They played one of the weakest schedules I have seen ISU play, and they never played a complete game.

If you can point to a year where ISU has had an easier schedule than this, I’m interested to see it.
These team is pretty good. But this was absolutely massively scheduled-aided.
There's all sorts of bad things that go on in about every football game, maybe ever. Missed blocks, tackles, ints, missed open receivers, etc.
It gets magnified watching the team that you cheer for but I also wonder how closely others watch other games.
It's like in basketball when people think ISU is the only team to get big leads and lose them.
Case in point: 'Zaga, a good team with a very good, seasoned coach, last night was up 15-18ish points for a good stretch. Guess what happened?
This is dumb though because we won. You could do this with lots of teams and lots of games. At the end of the day we won 10 games
Good teams get breaks that allow them to win the games, not going to complain about how we got to 10 wins this season, because EIU has had these types of schedules for years with the same results. You play who is on the schedule, KSU was a good team, KU was supposed to be, and was that stretch when we played them, UU was beat up and we just as easily could have beaten TT as losing to them.
It seemed like yesterday for the 1st quarter we had ASU off balance when we were on offense, and things were clinking. The adjusted going into the 2nd quarter and we never recovered. The defense was behind all game long, overall just a poor day, its crazy to say otherwise. When you give up as many long runs as we did yesterday its hard to listen to people suggest the defense was not the problem. The league has moved away from a spread passing game to more of pro style running/passing game and our staff has not switched over to the change. Its adapt or die, and yesterday our defense was stuffed and mounted. Was injuries and youth a problem, sure were, but the scheme was the baseline problem, it allows the QB too much time in the pocket and struggles with teams that run a pull and pin offensive line scheme. Just not enough bodies at the point of attack to stop the RB and then they bounce and get huge gains.
Overall Rocco needs to improve and get more constant, we need to find a couple more WR's and figure out which back we are going to feature moving forward, and its not Sama.

Damnit, I knew these 10 wins didn’t count because football games have rules and sometimes other teams make mistakes. I hope next year we win 5 games but we look really good doing it, I think I’d feel better then.
It's certainly not very often.
I don't know where the SOS's compared but the '04 and '05 seasons come to mind, particularly in conference. Iowa was #8 in '05 when they played but they ended up really not being very good.
Otherwise ISU usually had at least a couple of legit top 15ish teams to go through.
Don't know. Was he rusty from lack of palying and reps while injured? Was he still injured? Was he covered differently? Did the QB not throw to him when open? Seems like too many variables for a simple answer.

There are several and they are in the top ten. I was just making valid observations. On that particular point, we faced no one that was a playoff caliber team except ASU who qualified because of winning the conference. EVERY team in the country has to face the schedule in front of them and whether those teams are good or not is out of their control. Based on preseason hype, we should have faced a few pretty good teams…instead we faced one. In one example, Oregon faced Ohio State, Penn State, Illinois and Boise State. Not overpowering wins. The rest of the schedule was full of average teams. But their wins against those were dominant for the most part.
