Jaguar Rebrand

That's awesome. It's what I ended up doing as a job, but some of mine (even in college) are just as cringe without being funny. Any time the students get to make up their own company it increases the cheese factor 100x.
Me too on the editorial/content side.

I am a Jag guy. I think it was the Equalizer back in the 80s that hooked me. I own 2, and ive owned 2 others.

This logo is trash. But the brand has been mismanaged under Tata.

Jags are meant to be fast, handle perfectly, and gorgeous. Well, since the Ftype, its trash. The Fpace is an ugly boring suv. The XF and XJ both are indistinguishable from a Nissan. So mid.

If a Jag doesnt look like a work of art, its nothing.

Im fine w the electric move, frankly it should help w the speed and handling. But if they are ugly ass cars, i am out.

I was down at Willis this week, and was talking to a salesperson about the rebrand, and how their base models are going to be around $220,000 for the cheapest car in the future. Willis is no longer going to be a dealer; they can sell their old stock, but won't be selling any new ones. So anyone who wants to purchase a new Jag will have to go to Chicago or similar from now on, because they priced themselves out of the Des Moines market.

I believe everything about this statement except the price part. This may be their plan, but there is no way it will work. They should just buy Lucid

He said they'll be all electric-only, no hybrid or gas options. Which is great, but I'd guess that a portion of their market are older buyers, who might not be in the electric market.

I mean it is the most they’ve been talked about in a decade or more.

That price point would be ultra dumb. It would put them in the range with the supercars, which they are not. I have no idea what demo they are aiming at. Billionaire lefties who want to buy a supercar but don't like ot know anything about cars?

I would agree that price point can't be correct, but given everything else they are doing with the brand (boring styling, this 'modern' rebranding, etc) ... its certainly believable.

What a shame to destroy such a classic brand. Maybe they are trying to do everything wrong, wreck the value, and then sell it off to someone who will bring it back to its roots. Sort of like what they did with Schlitz.

Keep in mind that Tata also owns Land Rover. I think what they are planning on doing is having Jaguar owners get serviced at Land Rover/Range Rover service centers. This may work out well since Land Rover mechanics should have a lot of experience with fixing broken vehicles.

Modern Jags (since about 2000 when Ford took over) reliability is not really significantly worse than BMW, Audi, et al. It's worse, but not by much in terms overall failure rates. The extreme negative reputation is mostly due to the Lucas electronics they used during the 60s-80s, which were legit trash.

The problem is they've lost the essence of the brand, which is daring and gorgeous design mated with performance measured more in handling than horsepower.

Here is the problem in a nutshell:

It's not that they are ugly cars, but why would you pay luxury prices for a souped up Nissan?

They tried to make Jags blend in, but you buy a Jag precisely because it is just a bit much. Its flashy as hell and stands out, but still has the traditional 'old-money' connotation of England.

They took away the flash design. Now they are taking away the old-money feel. All that's left is... a Nissan.

I don't hate the all EV plans, hell I embrace them. But I am 100% more likely to convert my XK8 to electric than I am to buy a boring looking $220k car LOFL.

yes its garnered publicity, but so did Southwest disastrous flights and pilot walk offs and threats of strike.

Can't imagine their brand perception or market share is as strong as it was prior (I've not looked)

My F Pace is the best SUV I have ever drove and I test Drove Mercerdes C Class. BMW X5 and X7 as well as the X3. The interior and electronics are next level. It also has a 395 horse power Turbo. So it's actually pretty darn fast for an SUV. The 2021 and new F Pace are really nice.

My Subaru EV (not highly thought of by EV enthusiasts but for me it's been great and my favorite car ever) has a nearly identical Lexus version. It's like 15-25k more expensive and I straight up prefer all the details of the Subaru even if they cost exactly the same (more rugged exterior, better safety features imho, and I prefer the interior to the Lexus). The cost people will pay for brand status of a car is nuts.
