I don't hate realignment from high level. I like the idea of the Big12 adding the Utah, Arizona & Colorado schools. I will miss OU, but don't let the door-hit-you-in-the-buttocks UT.

And with the Big10, I think they will eventually make their West Coast move work by adding a couple more MT/PT zone teams just before their next TV deal. A West Coast pod of 6 teams will allow for less athlete travel.

But what makes my head scratch and is appalling is games like tonight with Rutgers @ USC with a 11pm ET kickoff. How can that be good for Rutgers player health and performance being on the field until 2/2:30am ET? I hope they flew to CA on Monday! The whole talking points by University Presidents & Athletic Directors about athlete physical & mental health is total BS.

Especially when the solution is so simple. ET zone teams shouldn't be playing After Dark (after 8pm local kick) . And PT zone teams shouldn't be playing Big Noon (9am local kick).

I'd assume every school would retain, Football, Men & Women's Basketball, Men & Women's Track & Field.
UNIs AD believes that only FB, MBB, WBB, VB, SB, BSB stay as true varsity sports. Everything else becomes some level of club ball with a small budget and no scholarships.

Hockey and wrestling have a shot as well at the limited schools that play those sports.

That's what's incredible though...if you truly didn't care, why not roll the dice many times on a better coach. Obviously they at least care that the next guy could be worse than 19 years of mediocre or they wouldn't have inked the guy to 19 straight years.

It's a chicken or the egg thing because you've been there for an entire generation with the guy. I was an Iowa fan in the 80s. Iowa football fans cared about Iowa basketball back when they had it rolling.

IMO the fact Fran is still at Iowa is a function of Barta hiring him and being AD until 12 months ago. AD's don't like to admit their mistakes if they aren't forced to. And Fran has mastered the winning sweet spot. Just good enough that its tough to fire him and when his seat is hot, he has a solid season.

Fans are more OK when one team is bad, but fans get vocal/irritable when both teams stink. As a Cyclone fan since the early 80's- I could live with FB being bad to mediocre as long as Cyclone basketball was clicking. I grew up a Hawk fan in the 70's/early 80's and when Lute was winning at a high level Iowa basketball was the fan focus and Iowa FB was secondary. Iowa fans don't know how fortunate they are to only have 2 football coaches in almost 50 years.

Does he think schools will be forced to have baseball? Or could schools like UNI & ISU offer wrestling instead of baseball.

Would be curious how that aligns with Title IX requirements. And if Title IX takes on new meaning when some athletes are paid by the university.

BYU ~ UCF in same boat.
And teams that travel across country, than halfway across country next game.
Think about the athletes! Unfortunately there will be more expansion! Need to establish “pods” as you mentioned. It just a matter of which conference takes the first step.
I absolutely hate the expansion ideas, conferences are becoming so big, you will have the top 2-3 teams may never play each other during the season, yet could be ranked 1-2.
We are going to see a lot of sports dropped across the country - f…ing pathetic. When we lived in Ames, I was able to attend nearly all sports at one time or another - great athletes, coaches and fans across baseball, men’s gymnastics, swimming, even Club Rugby. I am a huge track/wrestling fan - we got to enjoy Olympian's and World competitors/champions.

Go Cyclones!! I watch most all events on TV, and if possible, I try to attend events out east. Hoping to hit the Virginia Duals this year.

Better quit ranting!!

Btw for everyone that mentions legal action if congress getting involved during realignment, this is what happens. Nothing good for the players and arbitrary rules that are completely unnecessary like forced roster limits

I still blame Charles O’Bannon. He got this all started.

There's no chance of UNI bringing baseball back and I am all but certain Iowa State is in the same boat.

That's her thoughts on what the NCAA is going to sponsor legitimate championships for.

this is 100% a tv network decision, though

they knew they could potentially have a ny/la world series and they picked this game up all the way back in, I want to say August.

It follows the world series for those two markets.
