F1 2024 Discussion

I like Perez but he has spent all season battling VCARB, and Aston while Max is battling Ferrari and McLaren. With all the young talent coming in his time at RB is coming to the end.
I would have to think that's going to be Yuki's seat next year at the latest. He's done his time at whatever in the hell they're calling Toro Rosso these days. I don't see any reason for RB to keep Checo around after this season.

I kind of wonder if they get the balls to push Lance out that he might get the other drive there, with that Honda partnership.

My only gripe with that position is that Max is only ahead at the apex because he's driven it in so far that he's never making that turn within track limits. If he can make the turn then I have no issue with the decision.
This is my feeling, if Max stays on track then it's a clean defend. Sending it too fast into the corner, going off the track, to push the other driver off so any pass they make is illegal should not be a valid technique.

Lando should never have driven off the track and overtaken someone, that isn't allowed I don't care what the rules are about apex and all that ********. That said, Max was never making that corner and purposefully drove off the track, while engaged with another car. That in my mind that should be a penalty as well.

However, the way the rules are written, what Max did is okay as explained in the video, it just needs to be changed. drivers shouldn't be rewarded for purposefully driving off course. To say he will get a warning for driving off track is dumb. This isn't a car on its own, missing their apex and running wide on exit. This was a deliberate defense, and he purposefully drove his car through the corner to fast to make the exit while engaged with another car. That shouldn't be allowed. And isn't allowed in most forms of motor sport.

Bringing judgement into it only makes it worse. Stop the Apex ********, allow racing, if someone purposely drives off the track to defend or overtake that is pretty easy to spot, both happened in this and both are wrong.

Applying this logic to Russel's penalty takes it way. He drove in the corner on the inside, and was able to keep his car on track. The car outside has to make the business decision, and that is what it should be. We shouldn't reward drivers for hanging in unnatural positions on the track.

Everyone loves to talk about Ricciardo being the last of the late breakers, a lot of those overtakes wouldn't be allowed now. Which I think is dumb. If i can get my car into the corner and out the other side without going off track, why should I need to worry about the driver that let me do it.

All that said, other than that one move Max defended superbly, and Lando needs to learn to take a bigger risk. Just my opinion. I thought Max was positioning his car fantastically right up to the point he drove off the track. Lando wasn't aggressive enough at turn 1 or 11 and 12.

If I remember Max had a reputation of being pretty reckless early on in F1. We just haven't seen that in the past couple years because he's been so far out in front. Now that RB has some competition up front that's starting to get noticed again.

For sure he has had his moments (although the same can be said about most of the elite drivers at times), I don't think this was necessarily reckless though, clearly it's within the rules, I just think the rule should be different.

Piastri and Perez with clunkers and are out in Q1

Carlos and Max in the front row with Lando right behind them, turn 1 should be fun tomorrow.

Lando starting in row two should put him in 8th after the first lap since he suck’s at starting. Ferrari could be the odds on favorite for the constructions championship right now. Both drivers are killing it

Carlos’s two laps in Q3 were really impressive. I thought it was a Max v Lando race for sure.

I actually have more confidence in him starting 3rd than I would have on front row! Catch a slip stream perhaps and long run down to T1. I’m thinking there could be some real turn one action tomorrow

20 seconds of penalties for Max.
Not sure how anyone can root for this guy

They let him get away with it last week so he just doubled down on it and then some. And it might still work for him, Lando lost a spot and a ton of time to Ferrari.
