Rainy season kicking into gear here. Had a great fall this year, though.

I mowed the leaves and dust today in CR. I don't remember what rainfall looks like.
I don't get much for leaves so I am starting to think I have already mowed for the last time. I don't remember when the last time was but it was no later than early September.

Yeah. My grass is long, but it’s brown and laying down. Not sure the mower will do more than just stress it further. Might force me to do some detaching come spring, but I don’t know what else to do. Getting a nice snow cover this winter would be nice.

I've mowed 3 times since August 1st - probably the least I can ever remember. We caught an inch and a half of rain from 9/19 - 9/22 which greened things back up. Mowed once after that and then once again last week before aerating. Really wanted to overseed this fall but that is out at this point.

I meant to pull myself off the list for aeration and overseeding and didn't do it in time. Is that seed a total waste or would it still germinate in the spring? I tried to water a little but I can't imagine it did much good.

If it's still there it'll germinate. More than likely birds and rodents will make it disappear before it has the chance. Other issue is if it germinates and then doesn't stay wet enough to take root the seed will die.

I tried to aerate a few weeks ago with my pull-behind. I quickly realized how pointless it was. 150 pounds of weight sitting on it and it still bounced off the ground like it was concrete.

Mine looked like it went okay but the plugs sure as hell aren't breaking down lol

I knew my tiller would be worthless on my garden this fall, so I decided to spade it. Looks like I cornered the market on bowling balls with all the huge clods I have in it now.

Since you Iowa peeps are in the same no rain since August situation as me I'll throw out a tree and shrub care suggestion. Give your evergreen trees and shrubs a good soaking in. They need the stored moisture for the winter.

I am going to drag the hose with a soaker nozzle on the end out for my white pines, rhododendrons and yews. Rhododendrons were wilting when I lugged some water cans over and gave them a drink last night. My yard has cracks in it, that's too dry!
