Off the top of my head, it looks like nine former AP National Champions have played @ Iowa State. Four of them were (Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska), and three of them are currently (TCU, BYU and Colorado) conference teams. So, looks like (unless I missed somebody), the only *three* former AP National Champions that have played @ Iowa State and never shared a conference with the Cyclones are *Mich. State*, Army and Minnesota. Penn State playing @ ISU would be a B1G deal.

Yup: Bama, Texas, UGA, Tennessee, Mizzou, Ole Miss, LSU are all in striking distance of the bubble.
I feel like Georgia, Bama and Texas would have to implode to not get a spot. Then either LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss or Missouri will be deemed worthy despite having a worse loss than someone below them.
I have a buddy who went there and he has always been an ISU supporter and follower as well. I wouldnt talk ****, but Id be bubbling up inside wanting to.
I know this is satirical in nature but I genuinely think Iowa fans believe their program is the cream of the crop.....and I'm not sure how they could come to that conclusion after being blasted by yet another ranked team
the benefit of Vandy and Arkansas winning this past weekend is that now one of Bama and Tennessee will have two losses in a few weeks.....Georgia still has to play at Texas and at Ole Miss.....they could trip up against Texas and maybe hand Ole Miss their 2nd loss.......a lot of chaos still ahead I think.
Obviously our mission is just to take it one game at a time. This game against WVU is absolutely massive.
I'm sure there could be a situation requiring moving to a dome, but what I don't get, if they're making these first rounds at home sites, wouldn't it be expected the weather at northern campuses might be a bit "less than ideal"?
Otherwise, might as well use bowl sites for all games.
This isn't directed AT you, I'm trying to get a general sense of how this'll work.
At a certain point it's genuinely about the safety of the players. Fields like JTS (and most every northern CFB stadium) aren't heated or equipped to be used in late December. The surface can become a skating rink and hard as a rock.
The year the Metrodome popped and the Vikings had to finish their season playing at TCF Bank they were riddled with injuries. Even ended Favre's games started streak. This day and age I'd suspect the CFP would be opening itself up to significant liabilities if players were forced to play on such a surface.
As much as I hate it and I'd love to have a playoff game at JTS, you're 100% right. Unless we get lucky with a nice week or so consistently above freezing, it'd be pretty unsafe for the players and the fans, especially if it's a night game
Safety is valid. Obviously that's different than maybe getting heavy snow/wind on game day.
I do wonder when the decision would be made to switch it, or if it'd just default to Twin Cities. If weather is unusually mild in central Iowa in late-November/early December maybe JTS surface would be OK??
ISU fans would travel well so it'd still have plenty of home-field feel in Mpls
Of course we won't have to "worry" unless we get an at-large slot, but this is general discussion anyway.
Well, maybe ISU needs to invest in a heated field like Lambeau. In the new age of playoffs it is probably needed in order to bring games to JTS in December
