***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Other than Alonzo where you going to find 30+? Honestly his numbers have looked like Wisdom if he played full-time.
Juan Soto of course.
Obviously I don't think we get him, but a man can dream. I said in a previous post that they need to get creative.

I don't love Alonzo, although he does check that box.

Edit: Anthony Santander is another FA you could look at, who I assume would cost less than Pete. Not that they can't afford Pete, but could get similar production for the next couple years for less

Alex Bregman although he hasn't hit over 30 since he hit 41 in 2019 but he's about a 25 HR guy lately and would also solve the 3B woes. Probably not likely though with the trade for Paredes. Soto and Santander but we already have a logjam in the OF without some moves first. Chapman may be back on the market again too if he opts out but he's probably not 30+ HR potential anymore. Don't need a SS so Adames (25+ HR) won't be a target.

Ideally finding someone available through trade and using some prospect capital to make it happen but I have no idea who might be made available. May just need to target guys that have been consistent hitters with OK power in that 20-25 HR range but still get on base and hit for good average. If you look at our current roster there seem to be a lot of guys that hit below .250 (some were even struggling to stay over .200 at times this year. If you can't get guys with a ton of HR power then need to focus on guys that actually get hits when it matters. That was a big problem for this team earlier this season was terrible hitting with RISP.

I haven't seen him in Des Moines and was pretty sure I saw him in the dugout in Miami ???

Lopez and Roberts are dealing with injuries so an IL stint for either could be possible but roster expands to 28 on Sunday so either way he's probably getting called up by the end of the weekend. Looks like Smyly cleared waivers so it's not for him.

Cubs tried to blow it in the Bottom of the 9th but hold on for the win 7-6.

Might be a little nuts but while everyone is looking at the Braves because they’re the bottom wildcard team, I wonder if focus should shift towards the Diamondbacks. They have a brutal final month of baseball and only have a 2 game lead on the Braves.

Really? Mastrobuoni to fill an expanded roster spot? I've seen enough of him in Des Moines not hitting. What?? He shouldn't take ANY time from Vazquez.
