I wonder just how close they are to going over the tax threshold as if they could cut a few more contracts and potentially have another team pick them up and save the pro-rated minimum there are a few more guys they could do this with and potentially get under that number. I don't know if they are just barely going to hit that and a couple more cuts could get them under or if it's a big enough number it's not going to matter if they cut more. Smyly probably would get picked up by a team needing bullpen help but you look at the rest of the roster and I don't think other cut candidates like Bote and Wisdom would get MLB contracts to finish the season if cut now. Tauchman possibly might but it's not a given, at this point barring an injury to a position player on a team in the playoff hunt the guys the Cubs could cut probably are no better than whoever they have in the minors they could just call up. At this point teams mostly are looking at MLB proven bullpen arms to take a chance on if they have a need this late in the year.
