Of those 5 Big 10 teams that had a 4 seed or better in the 2021 tournament, only 1 made it to the second weekend. That includes 3 teams which were seeded 1 or 2.

But we are talking about a conference that hasn't produced a national title winner in 23 years. So we shouldn't be shocked. It was from that tournament that people really changed their views of the Big 10 and considered it to be overrated.

Crazy to think the last time the Big Ten won the tournament was Izzo and Michigan State after the... incident... in Auburn Hills that I'm sure none of us on here would want to relive.

Even crazier the time before that was 1989 with Michigan when Glen Rice was a senior.

So, since 1990, the Big Ten is 1/34 on national titles.

Meanwhile since 1989...

ACC = 11
Big East = 8 (both the "old" and "new" one and including the "vacated" Louisville one)
SEC = 6
Big 12 = 3
Pac-12 = 2
American = 1 (UConn)
Big Ten = 1 (Michigan St.)
Big West = 1 (UNLV)

OMG!!!!! So what you're saying is that sometimes in the tournament upsets happen? We've lost 3 times as a much higher seed just in the last 10 years.
No, they’re saying the Big 10 has been a paper tiger for 20 years and Iowa having 2 good players was enough to get them a bunch of wins. They hit good teams from actually strong conferences and fell apart, like every year.

I had hair the last time the B1G won a title and I haven’t hat hair since I married my wife 20 years ago.

Having 80% of the big 10 teams get upset is not normal
It's one year, which happened to be the weird Covid year, where the teams didn't play much of a non-conference, had games rescheduled, players out for testing positive, and no fans at games.

They were most likely overrated but you picked the absolute worst possible year in the history of basktball to use as evidence.

I wasn’t the one who picked the year, you did

Not at all, go back and read the posts I was responding to. One of the other posters was worried that our metrics this year look similar to 2021 Iowa.
And you were the one saying 2021 was a strong year for the big 10, even though you just admitted the conference was overrated

The B1G collectively has not done well the last two seasons either.

Iowa got smoked in 2021 because they were their typical house of cards when it came down to it. The same thing happened in 2022 and last year. Their one-off was 2019 when they hung with Tenn. but they were a 10 seed.

Upsets happen all the time though. That's why we watch the tournament.

ISU may very well run into someone that has their day while ISU can't get right.

They actually had 3 elite college players. Weiskamp, Garza, and Murray. I don't know why this is such a huge deal to you, having 2 or 3 elite players will usually lead to good things. We won back to back Big 12 titles with 2 elite players and a bunch of role players.

Ok, all the more reason they should have been able to go further in the NCAAs, right?

Weiskamp was...elite? Not arguing, I just don't remember much about him. Kind of a standard Hok player who could score well in their offense, but heck, Bobo did that.

I'd consider him elite in college. He left after his junior year for the pros and according to Torvick was the 12th best player in the Big 10 that year.

How and why did the "2024 MBB computer projections thread" turn into a completely ridiculous Hawkeye discussion?
Mainly because I responded to some posters who were having anxiety attacks over a tool on Torvick called "similar resumes" that showed us similar to Iowa in 2021 even though the teams are nothing alike.
