If Texas is in a legal guarding position, Houston cannot move them, even with no extension. That happened, Houston player initiated contact. It was a missed call and should have been a charge.

I think they are the best team in the conference, but I don't see them going any better than 13-5 or 14-4 (probably the former). That will probably be enough to win or tie for the regular season championship.
I don't know. They aren't very well coached and lack any kind of structure.
IMO they have 3 guys who I think are GREAT players and seem to do the right things on the floor. Mitchell is legit and, more importantly, isn't out of control. Disu is who they should be trying to run a lot of their offense through. Posts, some pick and rolls, etc but he is their (and has been) their most efficient player. Shockingly their guards often don't even TRY to get him the ball.
Weaver is an animal. That dude played some of the best perimeter defense I've seen out of any Big 12 player. He had that one really bad turnover, but general he's just a dog who hustles, plays within himself, and defends/rebounds hard.
Hunter and Abmas are out of control, unreliable, and don't seem to understand anything about the game of basketball. How Hunter thinks constantly standing around or gravitating to the 3 point line is a good utilization of his floor time is beyond me. Why his coach leaves him in the game when he does this is even more befuddling. If you simply key on Hunter he's almost always doing the wrong thing. He has a great first step, has access to the lane, yet routinely kicks out before making the defense collapse. He's robbing himself of lane opportunities and an ability to make his teammates wide open. The rest of the time he just stands there and its really hilarious when he keeps calling for the ball, without even moving, and really without being open.
They have the ability and talent to be (at worst) a 4 seed. But they lack the headiness, coaching direction, and intangibles to be anything more than a bubble team. Horns down.
I only disagree because I don’t think he was in legal guarding position. So we both see it differently and hence why an official might also see it differently.
I had money on Texas to win outright and wish the call would have been made, but I just didn’t see it that way.

Houston is just a bunch of grown ass men. I'll be pretty surprised if they aren't in the Final Four barring injury.
Also, Quarterfinal Thursday in KC is going to be better than any NCAA First Round site this year. Going to be 4 incredibly high level games.

When I think of it in context of “who can legitimately run off 6 wins in a row against good teams on neutral floors?” Houston is definitely on that short list.
Two things I worry about with them - especially after watching last night.
First, their offense can go stagnant. The last few minutes and regulation their points were almost exclusively off free throws and put backs. They struggled to get good looks and TX is not that great of a defensive team.
Second, their physical style of play fits Big 12 well but don’t know how that translates in the tourney when you get non conference refs. I think they had one starter foul out late regulation and another early in OT despite refs letting a good amount of stuff go.

Houston has 5 fourth year seniors and 1 super senior (Dunn). 4 out of top 5 players are seniors. I will be happy after next season when you no longer have the Covid year to contend with and will know when players eligibility is up. If all six leave (I doubt it), they will be in complete rebuild (but with portal, are you ever not in rebuild?).
The conference race is essentially over if they win at the Phog this weekend.
They wont lose at home and they already have 2 really tough road wins. The formula for winning the Big 12 is go 9-0 or 8-1 at home, and be 4-5 or 5-4 on the road and they are already halfway there on the road.
You had 3 refs that have all worked multiple Final Fours last night and will be on the short list again so I don't think that will be a huge issue for them. They're naturally going to be a high foul rate team.
Your point on the offense is well taken. That's absolutely the biggest concern for them.
Agree, a win at KU and UH would be in driver's seat. Probably.

—> It’s possible a home-L could come vs. Iowa State or KU, but even if it does, I see only two viable road L’s - Baylor & OU (maybe UC being a long-shot/head-scratcher). So that’s 13-5 at worst.
