Brackins Projected @ #12

Griffin
Thabeet You say Brackins isn't ready but than you list a guy who has zero offensive game. He won't have 1/2 the success in the NBA has he does in college b/c he won't be able to play in the paint
Harden
Aminu
Hill
Aldrich Love him in college but players like him don't do anything in the NBA
Teague
James
Singler
Lawson There is a reason the guy didn't go pro last year. CB will be drafted higher
Young Undersized and not that skilled for 6'6
Ellington
Blair
Curry JJ Redick Part II. There is a reason his stock drops daily
Jerrells have you watched him? His stock is dropping by the day
Henderson
Warren
Gibson Not a chance
Budinger
Mills Good player but no
Morgan
Flynn No
Williams
McNeal
Rice
Collins
Smith
Collison Nope
Maynor
Christmas
Evans

These are just the players off the top of my head. When looking at most lists, I have a hard time not taking Craig in the top 10. He is a 6'10 guy who runs the court and has decent range. He has more of an NBA type of game than a lot of guys

Of the 11 players listed above him on NBAdraft.net, I would take Craig over:

Mullens
Clark

And I am still not sold that Harden will do much in the NBA

When it comes to lottery picks, you're closer to the truth than you think. In my opinion, of course. How many guys with 'potential' live up to it?

Do you watch the NBA draft? They draft on POTENTIAL! Always have and always will. Why do you think Hansborough might not get picked in the first round?!?!? That in itself tells you all that you need to know

Potential guys that have lived up to it:

High School Players
Kobe
Lebron
KG
Dwight Howard
Stoudamire
Bynum
O'neal
Chandler

Some of those players didn't even come out of the gates swinging. It took them time to develop and now they are very good NBA players. The last 3 of course.

Daquen Cook didn't even start at Ohio St and he is doing well in the NBA. Cory Maggette? Marvin Williams?

I don't follow the NBA, but can you declare for the draft, not hire an agent and then come back if you aren't drafted in the 1st round? Seems like I recall being able to do that.

I understand the NBA drafts potential. I am stating my opinion as if I were in an NBA front office. I wouldn't draft Craig Brackins high. I have seen enough of him to make that assessment. If he is a legitimate lottery pick, he should go. I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying I don't think he would be a good pick at this point. I'm not sure he will be next season even. I just don't think his game translates to the NBA. He's weak.

I'm not doubting that he could get picked early in the first round. I'm just saying I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, 7 footers won't be able to play in the paint.:jimlad: Thabeet doesn't need to score. He changes and blocks shots and that's good enough.

I think you're all ignoring one important fact - this is very exciting for Craig. He has worked very hard and it will pay off.

I think one thing thats really working in Craig's favor right now is the fact that his game is at a point where its seen its most rapid improvement recently. If he stays another year and that improvement really slows down, even though he might be marginally better next year, scouts will project a lower ceiling for him based off that slowdown in improvement and he won't get picked as high. So, if he passes up a first round selection to come back he risks alot more than just the fact that he might get injured.

If he's going to be the 12th pick, he almost has to leave. He could stay another year, but it would be a head-scratching move. Not that I wouldn't love seeing him in cardinal and gold for his junior season..

I think a lot of people here are forgetting that although the NBA does draft on potential, it's not the only thing they look for. A lot of the teams have specific holes they need to fill and not all of them (infact the majority of them do not need to draft a PF). IMHO, there are probably 4-5 PF's that you could argue going higher than CB in this draft and to think that those 4-5 PF's are going to go in the first 14 picks seems a little farfetched (even though it may happen) to me.

Don't get me wrong, I think if Brackins gets the opportunity he should take it and I will be none the happier for him but I think that the people that are on here saying his stock won't go up too much from staying another year are not seeing that this is a class that's absolutely loaded with PF talent and that alone might be enough to make him stay another year.

I realize this really doesn't impact his decision, but I think it highly unlikely the Nets would take Brackins after drafting Ryan Anderson and Lopez and trading for Yi.

Tell me how many 7 footers dominate in the paint in the NBA.

Shaq and???

The 7 footers that are good to very good can step out and hit a 15 footer. Ming, Ilgauskas, Gasol, Duncan, Bargnani, Bogut, Nowitzki, and Brad Miller. They all have the ability to shoot.

Thabeet does not have that. He is a poor man's Dikembe Mutumbo. Look at the guys over 7 feet tall in NBA history that can't shoot very well.

Muresan, Bradley, Haywood, Collins, O'Bryant, Mihm, Diop, etc

You guys are all pissing in the wind. It's to early to get a good feel where he'll get drafted thereby to early for him to make an informed decision. Not to mention that nobody here knows what he's basing his decision on. First round? Lottery? Top 5?

He doesn't need to score. He can impact the game in a different way.
