I don't think it would be a dumb move to come back to ISU. I'm just not sure it's the best move for him.

I know a lot of you are in your 20s or younger so you are inexperienced in such things...but as someone with an 18 year old son...I would hope that the coaching staff at ISU is truly looking out for the best interests of the kid...not the best interests of the staff or the fans. You can become very successful by helping others get what they want...this situation is no different.
I am confident that McDermott is a quality enough guy to understand this and he is going to look out for the best interests of Craig first...just as he should. This is what you want from your coach...quit being so selfish.
Absolutely correct...and our fans are playing the role of team management to a tee.

Your right that he does need another year, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't still go this year and be drafted in the 1st round. They love to draft on potential... I think the choice CB will face will be leaving this year and being a late first rounder who needs a year on the NBA Bench to prepare, or returning next year, being an All-American type player and being a Top 10 pick and entering the NBA ready to play.
Lets hope he comes back to be a star next year.

A couple points about this thread.
1- The Portsmouth Draft Camp is for seniors only. It is now the only draft camp. The Orlando draft camp with all players is no more. It was eliminated for financial reasons.
So, if CB declares it will come down to individual work-outs to sort out his draft stock.
2- For context..let's analyze the Blake Griffin decision. Blake would have been a top 5 pick last draft if he wanted to come out. Probably #4 behind Rose, Beasley, Mayo. He will make roughly an additional $1.3 million per season for vaulting from #4 to #1 based on the NBA's rookie salary structure. However, he will have to wait another year to get to his second contract which will be in the $ 10-12 million range per year IMO. So it can be argued he is losing money by returning.
Also..the difference between a lottery pick and a late first rounder isn't that much in salary. The 22nd pick this year will make $1.2 million....the 12th pick...$1.9 million.
3-Craig is 21 years old and turns 22 before the start of next season. He will be older than 90 percent of the first round picks this year.

No, not shame on you for wanting him to come back...we all would prefer that. Shame on you for knocking the kid's game for your own selfish reasons.
So, let me get this straight. Me saying that his defense needs work, is knocking his game? I can't criticize any parts of his game that needs obvious work?
He is going to love the media at big time NBA cities...
I'm not a big NBA draft guy...but I do not recall him being a top 5 guy last year had he come out.
The age thing is a big deal...they like em young in the NBA.
All players (even Kobe and LeBron) have parts of their game that need work. And there is nothing wrong with pointing that out. However, with respect to Brackins, these criticisms typically seem to be plentiful only in the threads that are discussing his NBA draft status...the reasons are quite transparent.
PS: The NBA is only serious about defense during the regular season at the end of the game and during the playoffs.

I would love to have him stay and think there is a good chance. $$ isn't everything, especially for a great guy like Craig. Just trying to add some perspective.
Also..the other factor in ISU's benefit...the NBA is so much more of a business than most realize. The players fun level..especially those coming off the end of the bench..is not very high. If CB is drafted he would likely go to a team that had a good record the previous season and established players. My guess is he'd be lucky to play 10 mins. a game as a rookie if he comes out. It's more likely he will get spare minutes or be be inactive for a majority of games.
The passion and enthusiasm of college basketball and the chance to star on a good team and play in mid-March and the tourney is a big plus for him staying.

I find it funny that those of us that have been critical of McDermott are labeled "haters". I'll speak for myself, but I don't hate McDermott...I just hate to see ISU have a losing program. If McDermott can produce a winning program that would be just fine with me. I am loyal to ISU...not to any particular coach.

Actually, I never take any offense to anything on this site. I have a point of view and I like to debate so I enjoy this site.
I just find it interesting that many resort to name calling when the facts are not in their favor. Make no mistake, trying to support the facts of McDermott's tenure at ISU is a difficult proposition for those that attempt it.

This is precisely why Hansbrough has stayed.
I hope that Brackins goes very high if he declares. I would hate to see him go in round 2 or undrafted. Usually, that happens when the kid's personal support group (ie: entourage or posse or greedy family member) is ready to get their piece of the pie and they force the issue.
I hope and trust the McDermott will do everything in his power to get the kid quality info on his draft status so that he will have a very solid idea as to where in the draft he is likely to go.
If it were my kid, I would want him to do what he wants to do but I would probably counsel against entering if it looks like bottom round 1 or lower.
