I'm not sure if getting beat up during the non-con makes you more prepared for the Big 12, I think it just makes you more beat up. To paraphrase a quote by Izzo I remember from quite a few years ago he stated that one of the keys to March was to rest your players in Nov/Dec. Right or wrong we are basically doing that. In my mind the season is set up as well as possible and from here on out it will be more about the "Jimmys and Joes" because we've had the right scenario to learn the "X's and O's"

I think he's just ribbing the fans ******** about the schedule. I'm guessing they don't want this weak of a non-conference schedule every year. Although, with how big a gauntlet the Big 12 is, it doesn't really matter.

This is pure speculation. There’s no way of knowing if this will be the case, so why worry about it? Maybe this schedule is exactly what this team needs to be best prepared for this year’s big 12 season? Maybe it’s not, but there’s no way to either prove or disprove your point either now or after the season.

Not to mention there's been plenty of mixing rotations/line ups even during the first half of games before the game was not exactly well in hand (on the premise that a 20 point lead doesn't mean much in college basketball).

That included Omaha with four guards at one point a couple of games ago iirc. It didn't go well but perhaps it's something to work with in the future.

I've been saying it but you're just not going to find coaches that play their bench that early in the 2nd half.

We have first hand evidence that a 20 point lead is a temporary thing.

I went and checked in on how our old pals DePaul were doing after our showdown with them a few weeks ago. Seeing if maybe they'd started to right the ship and thus would look better and better (thought not too good sadly) as a win as the season progressed into Big East play for the Blue Demons.

They were by consensus a blue blood or no worse than one tier down from that not long ago.

They're also apparently broke due to paying a bunch of coaches not to coach across multiple sports.

I'll be the brave one that says it: conventional wisdom says playing against better competition makes you better.

They are jumping from low major to premier high major games. I think this team can be competitive in league play but they struggled in Orlando when they played teams that wouldn't roll over. Might have been nice to get more experience in those type of games.

I dont know how anyone could make that determination based off the competition since then. DePaul and Iowa are the 76th and 80th ranked defenses out of 80 Power 6 teams.

The fact is we lost both games against the only 2 good teams we've played all season, and barely squeaked by an A-10 team with a new coach.

It's going to be tough sledding no matter what, but have guys like C. Jones and Milan been playing the same way they did in Orlando?

Milan was good before Orlando, didn't he hit 6 threes in his first collegiate game?

Jones has definitely improved but alot of that has to do with the competition guarding him. We'll see if he can continue shooting well once the competition ramps up in Big 12 play.

We did build a 21 point lead vs the best team we’ve played this year so the guys have shown the ability. With the way Pav and C Jones are playing now, I don’t think that lead evaporates like it did.

I'm not talking more in their approach and style in how they're playing, not just shooting %.

After Orlanda TJ spoke about how he's looking for Milan to be more aggressive to the ball for rebounding, defense etc. and since then he has been. It was very noticeable at DePaul. I realize the competition has been bad but it's still a point of change.

Same goes for C. Jones. In Orlando he was forcing shots and just kind of all over the place; since then he's been timely and taking what's there.

You could edit out all of the opposition and I can see that BRE is playing in a much more controlled manner, his brain is working with his body better, his touch is much better, he’s evolving the way he puts the ball in the basket, and his FT shooting has gone from absolute dog **** to well below average, which is a big jump all while still playing really good defense.
