Maybe I'll eat crow, but the downgrade from Caleb Williams to Will Howard seems steep. Caleb Williams is one of those typical Lincoln Riley QBs and Will Howard feels like poor mans Charlie Brewer (Baylor). Good but entirely forgettable.
He’ll be throwing his helmet down a lot!

Don't know, but he built was proto typical. This guy is small.

He's short, but not necessarily small. Joey Petersen was listed at 6'4" & 255lbs. Snyder is 4" shorter and just 7lbs lighter. I can't recall any shorter DE's at ISU, but Curvey and Reed were both listed at 6' and were very effective DT's.

Snyder was moved from LB to DE less than a year ago. So I would think he has solid quickness and an off season in ISU's S&C program he could put on a few pounds. Plus, as OT's seem to get taller (6'6"+) and heavier, maybe stocky & quick has its advantages from a leverage/lean standpoint.

It has been pointed out ISU was near the bottom of P5/G5 schools in QB sacks this season. I expect as the staff has evaluated the 2023 season, that is an area that needs to be improved. Does it mean quick/powerful guys as part of a 3 man rush? Or do we see more 4 man rush?

I'd love to see the latter as the best pass defense is a pass rush. Snyder could fill both roles. A DE pass rusher or stand-up OLB that blitzes more than half the time. It's a role that Caleb Bacon cold play as well- he has a great motor. He was listed at 6'3" & 240lbs this season.

He’s not going to be anything but a situational role player. And that’s only if he beats out some talented young players. Size is the last thing I’m going to worry about.

It seems like a depth move if anything. The guys we have aren’t at McDonald’s level but they’re still young and can progress to great pass rushers

Gaines is a strange case. He passes the eye test. Maybe he wants to be a big fish in a small pond. Maybe he don’t work hard or run good routes.
Rumor has it the reason he didnt see the field much here was route running and knowing plays. That has never been confirmed to me, but it came from a reliable source so who knows

I don’t think people understand how important running good routes at this level actually is for a player. Sure you have the Randy Moss types in life that can run any route but most guys need to run sharp routes

My concern is that we have had a few highly rated WR recruits that have yet to see the field. Now, I know we have a decently talented group currently, but I would be stoked if Parkes, Ngoyi, Overby, etc saw some decent action next year

Campbell and staff have been hard at it looking for transfer portal wide receivers. That should tell you all you need to know on how well they think of the current depth at wide receiver.
